My 2020 Dually 7.3 F350 worktruck is an extracab. I took out the back seats to make room for tools and in the process, removed the rear seatbelts. Since then my airbag light has been on, presumably because seat belts arent hooked up. So I took to the dealership to disable those seatbelts due to there being no seats as well as some warranty work and they say they cant disable those because its a safety issue, liability blah blah blah.

So i say, actually, having my airbag light on all the time is a safety issue because if i there is a fault in my front airbag system (where the seats actually are) i wont know because the light is always on. They say yeah good point but sorry no can do. Oh and we cant put a safety inspection sticker on because your airbag light is on...lol

So is there a fix or workaround for tricking the system? If i put the seatbelts back it will be in the way of my tool area.

Also is there a way to disable the key in ignition, door open chime? If youre in construction you will understand.

Should i or could i use Forscan to fix/disable these things? Anyone else deal with this?

I took the radio out of my F150 to send it out for repair for the second time and my airbag light was on the whole time the radio was out. How much sense does that make? Fords suck in my opinion.

How is a rear seat belt considered safety equipment if there are no seats?

I turned seating space into cargo space in a line of trucks designed for work.

Im burning 1 quart of oil every 4000 miles in a 20k mile truck. Ford says thats acceptable up to 1 qt per 3000 miles. Its still under factory warranty

There must be a fix. If you think that is annoying, the cab/chassis models have that same chime while youre in reverse. Talk about distracting. I had them disable it though. I told them if they couldnt disable it i was trading it for another maker of truck because its extremely distracting. Imagine backing up a large truck with a trailer down a winding driveway with that chime blaring in your ear the whole time. dumbest thing ever.

Is it a gasoline engine? Just wondering, I had a GM 5.3 that burned oil the entire time I had it.

As far as your seatbelt issue is concerned, there are ways to bypass seatbelt sensors on side by sides. I bet there is something similar for the Ford trucks. No, I didn't look.

There is a company in NY that does seat belt and air bag ecm repairs. Maybe they can give you some guidance. Willing to bet there is a chip that needs to be reprogrammed.
Unintended consequences are a bitch ! Odds are that their lawyers will not let them tell you a work around since it is safety related, well your truck's computer thinks it is a safety issue.

There is a fellow on the Ford forums that does programming to allow some features to be activated on ford trucks, so he probably might also have a workaround. I would think that you could figure out a way to trick the wiring of the seat belts to make the computer believe that they are still there.

Maybe...some sensor is detecting weight, like an occupant, with no seat belt hooked up.
Not sure how the rears work, but probably like the front belts.
Weight sensors in the front also determine how hard the airbags deploy, kid vs adult weight.

1) you need to reconnect the wiring on the seatbelts, though you can position them as require. May take some clever rearranging of 'stuff'.. There is NO sensor to tell the computer there are no seats.but it knows you've unplugged the seatbelts.

2) door chime can be disabled. best to google how, it's a combination/sequence of ignition key or old skool..find the door switch and tape it shut. It's been done on all cop cars.

what is truly annoying is the **&^&%^ 'in motion' ( forward AND reverse !!) beeper on the new Kubota 80series excavator. there is no way I'd buy one until THAT beeper was defeated.

I may just try them out, thanks. and yeah "well your truck's computer thinks it is a safety issue" That is the whole problem not only does the computer not have common sense now humans dont either. I dont blame the dealership though, i feel like its lawyer driven.

That would drive me nuts. Im guessing those are easy to disable or trick though. They probably had to do that because modern laborers walk right into an operating excavator because they are glued to tictok

Dodge and Chevy consider that normal as well. They just added a bigger oil pan on the newer vehicles so the average Joe wouldn't notice.

Couldn't find anything about the rear seats, but there are 2 sensors for each front seat: seat pressure and seat belt tension.

Was there a quick connect for wiring to the seat belts??? If so, it's probably looking for a closed circuit. The clicked seat belt completes the circuit. Should be able to splice the wires together if it's a 2 wire switch.

Door switch: Duct tape the switch in. 😁😁😁 Splice the two wires together if it's a push button switch. If it's attached to the actual door latch then it's more complicated. You have to pull the trimming off to get to it. I would assume it's a two wire rocker switch. Splice the two wires together. If it's 3 wires then good luck 🙄🙄🙄🙄

The dealer monkeys have no way to program the system to ignore rear seat belts.

Did you remove just the buckles, or the retractors too?

You won’t be able to just jump the two pins on the buckle , light will still be on, they use a Hall effect switch for the buckle sensors.

No weight sensors in the rear seats.

I don’t see the key in chime as programmable either on our side, Forscan possibly, but I can’t say for sure.

I use seat belt extenders (Amazon or eBay) in my Toyota. Plug them into the seatbelt receptacle & the truck is happy (no chime). I use them when a cooler or dog trip the weight sensor. Or just motoring around the farm at 5 mph & don’t want to be safely strapped in.
