Breaking causes Tractor to stop

In a car the operator controls the throttle, on a tractor the operator sets the governed engine speed. When using the tractor brakes the governor will go full throttle if necessary to maintain its set speed, thus the safety switch.

This is not true for the OP 's tractor. It is an older tractor.
It uses the throttle to set the rpm for either land speed or PTO rpm. Downhill the tractor will try to gain speed and the rpms will rise. A steep uphill will cause the engine to lose some rpms.
In either case you must adjust the hand throttle accordingly.

Sure hope that this tractor is equipped with a roll bar and seat belt. If it were mine, it wouldn't be mine for very long. I would take it to the Kubota dealer and trade it for an HST tractor with some safety features that will help to keep me from killing myself by making an irreversible mistake.

Not having a gear tractor, I don't know. BUT I THINK I read here at OTT that at least some gear tractors actually have a throttle pedal? I assumed this might be the case, but not sure at all. Never been around a gear tractor...Probably would not make sense if doing plowing and so on.

Something I have no need to know, but curiosity is a weakness of mine I guess.

By the way, I now have the impression there is no safety switch on the brake pedal of the OP's model tractor. Did I get this wrong too?

This is the bigger cousin of my tractor.
There is a foot throttle and a hand throttle. They can be used together. I use the hand throttle to set the rpms high enough to keep the battery light off and then plow using the foot throttle.
It is no more dangerous than any other tool when used correctly.

As to 6 grand. Depends on the condition, actual hours, and how well it has been maintained. It is on the high side but not crazy.

Thanks. It says 350 hours but I don't know if/how many times it's turned since it only has three digits plus the white one for fractions of an hour. The condition doesn't seem great but I don't know enough yet to know if it's just appearance and small fixes or costly neglect.
