The games being played with pricing have always been there but lately they are rather extreme. For example the next state to mine has taxes that are much less and I bought my fuel there, lately the pump price is exactly the same. It is now pricing by what the market will bear, fairness is totally out the window.Just curious what is the price of off-road diesel in your area. I paid 5.89/gallon, 10 cents less than highway diesel. I always thought off-road was significantly cheaper but it seems I was wrong. I’m in Idaho
$5.59 locally about 2 weeks ago.Just curious what is the price of off-road diesel in your area. I paid 5.89/gallon, 10 cents less than highway diesel. I always thought off-road was significantly cheaper but it seems I was wrong. I’m in Idaho
What is green diesel? Some type of Biodiesel?I can get green diesel for $4.62 with OpenRoads, last I checked the Red 60 miles away was $4.65.
Regular on road pump diesel. It has a green dye. There are 3 dyes, Red Green and Blue, though don't remember what the blue was for. Diesel is usually clear to slightly yellow. What is green diesel? Some type of Biodiesel?

The only difference is the road tax.I always thought off-road was significantly cheaper but it seems I was wrong. I’m in Idaho
they also don’t like their mandated emission equipment on their modern diesels…so I hear anyways…at least they are switching their 600,000 plus vehicles to full electric, any day now…Apparently the government doesnt like paying taxes....
off road and on road fuel are the exact same thing, just dyed different to distinguish between road taxes paid on the fuelI've switched to the local FS supplier. Their off road diesel isn't any cheaper ($5,69/gal last fill up) but the tractor seems to be getting better performance and using a little less fuel.
Here is a clear answer:supposedly red fuel isn't taxed
here, diesel is taxed at $0.285 state, 0.244 federal + $0.03 sales tax, grand total $0.55/gal
Red diesel is 4.85/gal locally. Same station's clear diesel is $4.94/gal.
It don't add up....or, at least, something don't add up.
If they cost the same to make, then red outta be $0.55/gal less expensive ($4.39) which it obviously isn't. Maybe the dye is $0.46/gal or something...who knows...
and what bugs me is how "they" came up with taxing diesel more than gas. Supposedly because the big trucks (all run diesel) do the most damage to the roads, they are supposed to pay more. Well...what about us that own/drive little diesel powered pickup trucks? They are much rarer and they are not heavy enough to cause the same damage, and generally we don't drive them much other'n from the farm to town or just around the farm mostly, so why penalize the little guy?
I keep asking people about this and there is no clear answer from anyone, not our leaders, nobody!
That's true, but FS off road has no bio diesel and they mix cetane and a number of additives to you would normally pay xtra for. It is not what you're buying at a gas station. Not trying to be a FS fanboy, but it seems to help.off road and on road fuel are the exact same thing, just dyed different to distinguish between road taxes paid on the fuel
