Simpson Pressure Washer Oil

Have a Simpson Pressure Washer with Honda GC 190 engine.

I’ve used the Simpson oil a few times, but the stuff is ridiculous in price. $17 for a pint.

Today saw it’s 15w-40 at TSC.

I started to look for an equivalent a couple years ago, but didn’t know/realize it’s 15w-40.

I’m thinking just plain old diesel-rated 15w-40 should work? I’d probably use a synthetic; just my preference.

I have a few cat pumps at work. Been using cat oil in them, bottle says it’s ISO68. So, I’ve been using my bulk 68 in them for over a year now.

In this machine, the crankcase oil is also the lubricant for the pump, unless I’m missing something terribly.

My apologies for my ignorance. This is new to me, which is why I stuck with the OEM stuff.

I dont think so. Crankcase refers to the pump crankcase not the engine crankcase. Where do you add it?

Dan - just one drain and one fill on this machine.

Honestly, I didn’t put a lot of time into the Owners Manual…. I have operated a lot of stuff for 50 years, figured I’d be okay…

Looks to be a non serviceable pump. Or you could pull pump apart with those Allen bolts dump out the old and put in new. Will be a heavy spring in there, nothing will fly, just might need a clamp to go back together.

This is a comet pump I did a few weeks ago.

OK, so you need the ISO # and type of oil, i.e regular non-detergent dino or syn for that pump and go with it. I wouldn't switch from dino to syn or vice a versa, due to seals in the pump may not like the new oil.

Might be time to read the manual. In my experience pumps simply bolt to the outside of the engine and have a separate drain and fill. Pump drain at 8:00 in the video.

When I saw the 15w-40 tag today, I wondered if a similar motor oil would work. When you talk ISO, I’m thinking that’s a hydraulic fluid?
Again, this is labeled a “pump crankcase” oil….

The washer probably has 50 hours on it….if I’m doing it wrong, at least it’s a testament to the resilience of the equipment….despite my ignorance…..

I downloaded a couple Simpson manuals.Based on them the oil you pictured is a non-detergent pump oil. It is not an engine oil.

For gasoline engine pressure washers most times you get a pressure washer manual specific to the pump/washer components and a separate engine manual specific to the engine make and model.

Its entirely possible there is no way to change the pump oil on your machine.

The 15w-40 tag at TSC today piqued my interest, but it is what it is. I’m okay with using an OEM product when needed.

This is thefirst Honda engine I’ve dealt with. Understand their attraction. Nice engine that runs well and starts easily.

After looking at my pictures again, I think the pressure washer needs a pressure washing…..couldn’t use it last year due to weather when I was off work.

When I tore a freebie Karcher gas version apart, I just used 'air compressor' oil to refill the pump. That was 3 years ago, probably 200 hrs on the thing since then.

That Honda engine is bullet proof. Take good care of it and it will take good care of you. I have owned the Honda 390 engine with a Cat pump for over 25 years (same setup). Still runs like Forrest Gump.

To your question; 15W-40 is fine as a substitute. Page 17 of the manual.

No synthetic.
