Would need to link it to a ROPS-up switch as well. Gets complicated.

I never put ROPS up because I did $3,000 worth of damage to the front of the tractor's garage when I put it up the 1st time and when the dealer left it up this last time.

Only use seat belt when going downhill sometimes, to keep me from sliding forward. Thing keeps getting tighter and tighter, too. Gets uncomfortable.

I still can't figure out how to put the parking brake on!
Guessing its electric parking brake…should have a switch either in center console or panel under steering wheel. I don’t know Subarus.

Should have a symbol like this on the switch

88F85982-0578-4F3F-914F-472A359BFA96.jpeg

Most you pull the switch up to engage, push down to release.

If you ever have to change rear brakes you will have to look up the procedure to put it in maintenance mode so you can push the calipers back in without damaging the electric motors on the calipers.

Edit: there is also auto start/stop eliminators available as well.

wow, anyone think of why having electtic motors on brakes on salty roads is a bad idea ?????
some 'tech' should STAY on the 'drawing board', or at the bery least the 'designers' made to repair their stuff.

also find it 'interesting' that every 'safety device' they put on riders gets a bypass of some sort....

The electric parking brake is a good example of the issue with some of the “improvements” in cars and light trucks. Take a very simple, cheap, easy to maintain, reliable system (cable and lever you push with your foot) and replace it with a more complex system more prone to failure (i.e. anything involving electronics and motors) which costs more and provides less functionality than the system it replaced. Having been through two catastrophic sudden failures of the brake master cylinder on vehicles which rendered the primary brakes completely inoperable, I can attest there are rare occasions when the “parking brake” truly becomes its other name “emergency brake”. An off/on brake isn’t much of an emergency brake.

Some improvements are true improvements. Having a backup camera on a full size pickup; that’s an improvement worth the extra money. An electric parking brake? That’s just stupid on numerous levels.

I will soon be 75 and am starting to think I will have to join the ranks of the “buy a new car every three years“ crowd. Always used to run vehicles forever. Thats why my van is approaching 20 years old.

Spent my working life involved with electrical control systems in an industrial environment. I think I learned something there.

👎 to technology in cars that is not needed for safety!

I was SO HAPPY to discover online that my Ram P/U has a work-around to shut the seat-belt chime OFF. I use the truck around the ranch all the time….needing to get on or off on/off/on …gate-open...gate closed…etc etc.

Ram P/U procudure: Get in the drivers’ seat. Turn the key ON but do NOT start the engine. Buckle / UN-buckle the seat belt THREE TIMES leaving the belt BUCKLED the THIRD time. Turn the key OFF.

Ta-Taaaaa! The warning light still illuminates…but the chime no longer ding-ding-dings incessantly.

My '57 Willys pickup had a hydraulic parking brake. Push brake pedal ,then flip a manual on/off valve under the dash. Simple, cheap, effective.

As far as I'm concerned some of this new technology is putting us in danger.

Case in point. My Dad passed away in January a few years ago. I flew in to Syracuse, New York and rented a car there to drive 100 miles to the town where the funeral would be. They gave me a new Toyota Corolla. It being upstate New York in January, of course winter was in full force and the highways were snow covered. I got up on the freeway and found a "two track" - two dark bands of pavement where tires from vehicles had swept off the snow. Everything else was 6" deep snow and slush. Evidently those two clear areas weren't in the center of the lane because the Corolla kept forcing me into the slush and snow off to the side, with it's "lane keeping" feature. Thinking there's got to be a way to turn that feature off, I pulled off the freeway and looked for an owners manual. None to be found. I fought that car for 100 miles.

Toyota has a single button on the steering wheel that turns the lane-keeper on/off.

Google is your friend:
How do you turn on the lane assist on a Toyota Corolla?

Image result

Locate the LDA button on the steering wheel, which looks like a vehicle veering out of its lane. Press the LDA button to activate the system, this will turn the LDA indicator and lane lines on.

Press the button again to turn it off.

OK, I can understand that. BUT why not have a button to turn it on, for those who want it?

That is my question with all this high tech stuff...add it, but give me the option to turn it on if I want it.

Do not force me to figure out how to turn it off, ESPECIALLY if I am driving the vehicle.

You should fully read and understand that little book they put in the glove box before you get behind the wheel 😉
Sorry, but that is total BS for someone who has driven vehicles safely for decades...stated with all respect naturally.

Edit: Agree that manuals should tell the operator how to activate options that are put there as perceived enhancements. But it should not be necessary to have to read the manuals to disable options that are not wanted or needed to begin with.

EDIT2: Does it make any sense that I still do not know how to set the parking brake on my Subaru? Yes, I could read the manual and perhaps eventually find that it is set automatically, without any need for input from the operator. I really do not know, and have not got around to wasting the time (loosing the time might be better) figuring it out. I do not park on steep hills...used to be when parking on a hill, you turned your wheels so that if the car drifted back, the front tire would hit the curb. Who does that today? Only those who do not depend on the manual for common sense actions I guess...LOL

An additional comment.

If this were a common sense way to do things, then it would only make sense for a car dealer to have purchasers take a test to see if they understood the manual for the car before it was put in the hands of the purchaser...

I guess I just discovered a thorn in my side! LOL

In 2016 we sold a small business. Invested the bulk of the money but splurged a bit replacing our aging vehicles. Bought the wife a Highlander Platinum and myself a Tundra 4WD work truck with the bigger engine and lower gearing for towing. Wife wanted all the safety add ons. I wanted the most basic thing I could get that would tow 10K lb and was a bit irritated to find no one makes a truck with that much towing capacity with a manual transmission in the US.

Toyota sent me a lengthy survey wanting my thoughts on the importance of driver assist features on new vehicles. I told them in lengthy terms that I don’t like them. They sent two follow ups and finally called me to discuss why driver assist features weren’t important to me. Told the rep I see it the same as if he and I got in a vehicle to go somewhere. If he’s driving and I’m napping in the passenger seat, fine. If I’m driving, he can shut up and ride. It’s NOT a joint venture. If they come up with a car where I can reliably put in my destination and take a nap in the back seat until we arrive, sign me up. Until they get to that point, I’m driving and I don’t want or need any help with that. Never have, still don’t.

Wife likes all that stuff. To each their own. Of course once in a while she also tells me she’s a better driver than me. Maybe she is but last time she said it, next day we had to trailer the tractor to church for a work day. Got it loaded up and got in the passenger seat of the truck. Wife asked me what I was doing. Told her she’s a better driver than me, so I figured she was the best choice to drive the rig to church. She told me to quit being a jerk and get my butt in the driver seat. Of course I happily did so with no further comment and no driver assist features. Somehow we made it there anyway.

Read my original post. Rental car picked up at an airport. No owner's manual in the vehicle - I checked.

Flip-phone owners shouldn’t rent cars newer than 1985….. 😅

(and car rental cos have 800 numbers for customers to call when they experience difficulty with a car.)

Ford ( maybe others...) no longer put owners manuals in glovebox... you have to lookup, online to get info. Least that's what they do with the battery powered JOKE of a Mustang, had one here for 1/2 day.
As for info IN a manual, the wheel nut torque value is NOT in the manual for my '97 F150. I'm guessing that numbe risn't important ??
BTW some of us don't have ANY kind of socalled 'smart' phone
