I have a l2501 gear shift. 40 hrs on it. When operating tractor from forward to reverse its fine. As soon as i cone to a stop put it in neutral amd get off tractor to say load wood in bucket i get back on push in cluth and put it in low high or reverse the tractor grinds. Ive tried putting the tractor in neutral on the forward and reverse shifter as well as in nuetral on the gear select. Ive put it in low then grabbed a gear and it grinds. Ive grabbed a gear with no grinding and then grab high or low and it grinds. Anyone know what the problem is?

If you place either the hi/lo or the transmission gear shifter in neutral with the engine idling... the gears will be spun by the engine and you must depress the clutch and wait for several seconds (15 secs or so) for the gears to stop spinning before you can put them back in-gear.

Yeah like Geo said. Its a non synchronized transmission. Mine is the same way. Just don’t keep trying to force it when its grinding, back off let everything stop then try again. Also sometimes it may not be lined up right and it won’t go in gear, just let the clutch out a little and try again.

And btw, I also always leave the gear selector in gear. No need to take it out when you put the range shifter in neutral. You also can’t shift gears on the go like a car, come to a stop then change gears.

I have the exact same tractor. I don***8217;t really notice gear grind in H, L, or R. For example if I am working the bucket picking up a load of dirt from a pile I can go from L to R or R back to L without grind. It***8217;s quick and easy. When I notice grind at times is when I go into gears 1 thru 4. I have to give it a pause and let gears slow down and then no issues. So for example both shifters are in neutral. I put the tractor in L and then put the other shifter in 1st I know I need to pause before I put the tractor in 1st. The advice above to leave the tractor in whatever gear (1 thru 4) and just use L, H, R is pretty solid. I typically don***8217;t though as I jump on and off the tractor a lot and many times put both in neutral because I am overly cautious but it***8217;s probably dumb for me to do that as the tractor isn***8217;t just going to pop into gear and run over me and the seat switch would kill the engine without me in the seat. Now I type all this I probably won***8217;t take it out of 1thru4 anymore unless I need to switch gears. For what I do I stay in first and occasionally 2nd, maybe 3rd in L.

Do not worry about it. It is a problem with the forum software and it will be fixed tomorrow we hope.

I applaud you for placing both in neutral when dismounting. I do the same because my former tractor was a 9N Ford and tractors can run right over you if started in-gear (for which I could be soundly-criticized for doing against all Safety-Warnings and for-which the safety-switch in the L/H/R lever is designed to defeat.). Regardless, when I’m getting ready to ride “Ol’ Paint” I always start ‘er up and let ‘er warm-up while I get my spurs on..... so I don’t get on her to start her.... I do it and do other small tasks while she warms up/settles down... so being very careful not to get run-over... for me... means both levers being in neutral. YMMV
