Nothing changes for Amy and I. Going to wear a mask when going out (rarely), latex gloves when pumping gas or diesel. Wiping my credit card with sanitizer after using it. Baking cash in the oven...lol Social (non social) distancing and avoiding contact of any kind with strangers.
I even replaced the cab filter on my M9cab with the (expensive) charcoal filter. Needed replacement anyway.
Fauci and Brix keep saying it's too soon as well, but the 'natives' are restless. I believe a lot of them will succumb this next time around.
The 'new normal' and the old normal are 2 distinctly different animals.
I didn't get my NM elk draw permit. Fine with me. If I had, I'd probably not go anyway. I can kiss off 800 bucks and stay healthy. As is is, I don't have to. When I saw the 'unsuccessful' notation on the draw results, I was much happier. I get 800 bucks back minus 45. Good with that.
Montana and Nebraska have closed off any hunts to non-residents. Only Nebraskans and Montana residents can hunt there now.
I also believe the day of the 7-10 grand out west hunts is done. One, the only hunters that can afford the price of admission are older hunters that can afford it and with retirements going south, the funding has basically dried up and two, those hunters are more concerned with staying alive now.
Finally, I suspect those hunts will become pretty cheap in the coming years, if the states even allow non residents to hunt. The outfitted hunt business is big business and outfitters depend on it for a lively hood. They have to drip their prices to stay alive or go bankrupt.
I bet next year an outfitted hunt will cost maybe 2 grand instead of 7-10.
Still got a Maine Moose outstanding with a ton of preference points and the Moose hunt is still on so I have an excellent chance of drawing that. I do have a very distinct advantage in Maine as my very good friend and his wife live east of Bangor and he's a state certified trapper and knows all the good spots plus we would stay at his place, so no outfitter needed. Why we play Maine, besides, unlike NM, it's cheap for a draw permit. 30 bucks versus 800.
