Re: Is the sky falling?

Wonder if you can get 'Powdered Buttermilk'?
No idea, but I only use milk and buttermilk to cook with, so i only need one of the little two cup jugs at a time.

I think some of this stuff that's flying off the shelves are gonna end up going to waste.

Re: Is the sky falling?

This morning I ventured out into the land of the crazies Went to Wallyworld had get the cat food, and litter, I know but I told her I would take care of her cat before she passed away. Anyways the produce area was full the deli had everything you wanted, milk not bad, meats not so much, TP gonzo water nope, but sports drinks by the truck load any color and flavor you wanted. The cat food shelves were almost bare, as was the littler. I asked one of the people working in that area whats with the cat food and litter,, she smiled and said damned if I know these people are crazy.
Went over to RK and got bird feed ,yeah I know it was in the same promise. Their shelves were in very good shape everything you needed, I guess nobody thought about a farm supply store having stuff. And surprisingly the people I spoke to , to a person all said the same thing. This it total BS, brought on by the news media and really if you follow the same rules for any flu you are good to go, and one of them was a nurse. And if you looked arouond they only ones that are going tilt, at least around here are the younger people, that never lived through hard times, or a long union strike like UMWA and USW.

Re: Is the sky falling?

Woohoo, found some TP for the son and daughter in law :D Local grocery store of all places. Bet they will start buying cases from Sam's club when things settle down.

What shocked me was I got the last jug of butter milk. Had to get a worker to go into the cooler and shove it to me since you couldn't reach it from the front. You wouldn't think there would be much of a demand for Butter Milk.

I would have been out of luck if they didnt have it  Had my niece and her family coming over for breakfast in half an hour. Can't make buttermilk pancakes without the butter milk.

I've never had pancakes made with buttermilk (I lead a sheltered life) does it make that much difference in taste? Actually I delivered milk for close to 13 years when I was younger and never drank milk unless I was a little under the weather from the night before then a pint of chocolate milk and a nice big greasy cheeseburger always brought me back around.

1 cup flower, 1 cup buttermilk, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon baking powder. ;) Give them a try :D

I honestly couldn't answer your question. Grams taught me that recipe when I was 6 years old. Always made homemade pancakes that way. I will say that everyone in the family raves about them. And my grandkids refuse to eat pancakes at home if it's not "Poppa's" recipe [emoji14]

If your cooking sausage or bacon to go with them then hold off mixing the pancake batter till your ready to cook the pancakes. This way they come out light and fluffy. Letting the batter sit to long before using will cause the baking powder to fizzle out.

Something like that recipe makes darn good waffles too. I never knew what to do with the rest of the jug of buttermilk. Haven't made it in years.

If you need to stock up on milk, there is something I call shelf stable milk. Same as regular, pasteurized at a higher temp, comes in waxed cartons. Keeps for about 6 months at room temp. Find in the store either with the almond milk stuff or with the condensed milk, or sometimes with the little juice boxes for kids. Either in little boxes or quarts.

I never knew what to do with the extra butter milk either. So I usually hit one of the bigger grocery stores in town. This way I can buy the smallest jug which is around 3 cups, instead of the half gallon jug which I was stuck getting today.

Also easy on the stirring/mixing as it changes the batter .
You left out 4 key ingredients at my house for pancakes perfecto. Homemade vanilla flavoring, cinnamon, chopped pecans , & a tad of that bacon grease your frying up. Top those off with " real cow sav butter " & warm maple syrup. Ummmmmm :)
We use Bacardi Dark Rum to make our vanilla

Re: Is the sky falling?

Guidance as of 3/15/2020

Large events and mass gatherings can contribute to the spread of COVID-19 in the United States via travelers who attend these events and introduce the virus to new communities. Examples of large events and mass gatherings include conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies. These events can be planned not only by organizations and communities but also by individuals.

Therefore, CDC, in accordance with its guidance for large events and mass gatherings, recommends that for the next 8 weeks, organizers (whether groups or individuals) cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States.

Events of any size should only be continued if they can be carried out with adherence to guidelines for protecting vulnerable populations, hand hygiene, and social distancing. When feasible, organizers could modify events to be virtual.
