Gotta agree with CCR, rental cars are hitting the auctions. I picked up a 1 year old 24K mile car for half price of new. Nice to get rid of the wife's car payment and get into this cheap.

Rental cars are ALWAYS hitting the auctions. Enterprise alone has a fleet of 1 million+ vehicles. They run them to anywhere from 10-mid 30k mileage generally. After that they do their best to sell some retail, they'll wholesale quite a large portion, and some will end up at auction. In my line of work (I'm a market manager for the largest floorplan company) I'm constantly at auctions, and believe it or not consignments have been down. The market is not flooded, at least in upstate NY *YET. We are expecting a downturn, with consumer demand seemingly light but only time will tell for sure.

I just bought a new Ram 3500 crew cab with the Cummins. $40,500 out the door. Very little for options on it, but its new and it has air conditioning and automatic transmission which was my only requirements. Its getting 20 mpg empty in the city, 23 on the highway. Pretty good for a new/tight diesel.

Good deal! I considered the Ram's but I've found that they just don't seem to hold their value. If you're looking to keep the truck until it grows roots, that doesn't matter. But we seem to have a habit of trading every few years.

I hear the Ram's have a lot less issues though, so it's odd that they depreciate faster than the other trucks.

On the contrary, Cummins powered Rams hold their value very well. Go try to purchase a clean 2004- 2008 with under 100k miles. Big $$

I agree...I looked for one. I wanted used but it cost me less monthly to buy a new one with low interest financing and I get all the warrantee benefits.

Maybe it's just where I live but all of the Dodges were significantly less money than the Chevys and Fords. Even the same mileage and year trucks the Dodge options were sometimes several thousands cheaper.

The dealer I bought my truck from also mentioned that Dodge trucks don't hold value very well, as they have to wholesale all of their Dodge truck trade-in's lately. Looking on their lot he was right, they didn't have a single one.

I told my wife that means one of two things. People aren't trading in their Dodge trucks and they'd holding onto them. Or he's right and they're just hard to sell.

I suspect people are holding onto their RAM's. Around here they do. I think it says a lot about the FORDs that people trade them frequently.

Yeah specifically the 6.0's and the 6.4's.

I haven't read about any nasty issues with the 6.7's, luckily. The only true issue noted on the 6.7's is the DPF system, which is a complaint for ANY new diesel truck.

I've always just been a Ford guy, and I prefer the layout of the Ford interior over the other brands, which is why I went with the F250 over the other options. If my budget had put me in 6.4 territory, I would have looked heavily at Dodge and Chevy.

Dodges hold their value, at least mine did. Just traded my 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 SRW Megacab 5.9 Cummins. Bought it 1 year old, new. Sticker was $51k, git it for $42k. 11 years later with 191k miles later got $16k. Really worth about 2 trucks.
Wanted diesel again, but.....not needed really, 2 daughters in college, job change, a couple personal issues and now have a 2016 Dodge Ram 2500 5.7 Hemi, didnt like the F250.

A convenient thing for a non-Dodge dealer to say. He doesn't have any on his lot because they sell out as quick as he gets them in.

Remember, you are talking to a "used car salesman." :)

Well to be fair, it wasn't a Ford dealer either.
