My son in law has a 6.7 Powerstroke and he was saying you won't get good mileage till 6000 to 7000 miles. My 2001 Powerstroke was the same way. I do love the new truck and Caribou brown is a gorgeous color but to har for me to keep clean so I went with another white one.

I was actually wanting a white one but the decision maker said that the brown is what would make her happy. I've got 2400miles on it now with no improvement in fuel economy so looking forward to the 6-7k mile point.

The brown color is gorgeous but I normally keep a vehicle 10 to 15 years and white is easier to maintain , my son in law has a magnetic gray F-250 I think it's th prettiest color Ford offers.

A loaded lariat around here goes for $53-55k depending on options and color. You can buy most platinum 250-350's for the same money. Y'all guys must have to pay more out west

Took the 5th wheel out this last weekend with the new 2016 F-350. I was very happy with its preformance of the truck , more than enough power and the exhaust brake works as promised. I'm more than happy with the mileage I got 12.8 MPG and the truck only has 700 miles on it , it will get better mileage after it's broke in. My trailer weighs 11000 lbs and we pulled several hills the 6.7 Powerstroke was impressive pulled better than my 2001 7.3 Powerstroke witch I never thought I'd say.

Used truck values are insane too. I bought my 2013 F150 Ecoboost with 44,000 miles on it. Certified preowned from a Ford dealer for $32,000. It's now at 76,000 miles and it's still worth $27,000!

I'm considering trading it in now while the value is still high, or just run it til it's dead. I have the extended Ford warranty to 125,000 miles.

Well, not that this thread is very active anyway but I figured I'd add to this.

I ended up trading the Ecoboost in.

How did you like going from a 1/2 ton to a 3/4 ton? How much weight and what are you towing with it?

Absolutely love it. It's not really weight that caused me to upgrade. I'm only ever really hauling around 7,000lbs or less, which my old Ecoboost handled just fine. The problem was doing 75mph down the highway and have a horse shift its weight too aggressively. It would send the F150 into convulsions sometimes. Moving to the larger truck, I haven't noticed them back there at all.

We also want to eventually move from our 3 horse slant to a 4 horse gooseneck and having the F250 made that option more available to us.

That helps confirm my thoughts of jumping straight to a 3/4 ton also. After riding in a buddy's Duramax, it just handles the weight so much better and doesn't get pushed around.

Exactly. Not only that, I'm getting better fuel mileage in a larger truck. I'm averaging 20mpg right now. Average in the Ecoboost was 17.5mpg and when towing the horse trailer I was at 10mpg if I was being good. The F250 saw 17mpg while towing the same load on Saturday.

The ONLY downside for me is that the F250 has a 25ish gallon tank and my F150 had the extended range tank from the factory at 36 gallons. So I went 500-600 miles between fill ups. I'm filling up more often now because of that but fill ups are cheaper and I'm getting more miles per gallon even though it doesn't feel like it.

I have been wanting an F150 Supercrew Platinum for a few years. The prices are ridiculous, and I can't see paying that amount of money for a vehicle. Last month I picked up a 2002 F150 Supercrew Lariat with 93,000 miles. for $3700. The truck is Mint, Cherry, and has been well taken care of. No rust to speak of, original paint, and a like new interior. I had to put an axle seal in back, an exhaust manifold on the right side of the motor, a Gibson Cat-Back dual exhaust , a K&N CAI, and a Cruise Control Servo unit from a salvage yard. I am still under my $5000 limit I had set for myself and I have a good, solid truck. Fuel economy is 19.3 MPG which isn't bad for a 5.4L. But someone from above was looking down upon me, because trucks are hard to find around here, and GOOD trucks are near impossible to find. I am going to keep this one as long as I can, because I can't see paying the price of a new one.

Sounds like you scored a killer deal.

While I agree with you, I cringed at the idea of paying $38,000 for a used truck, I have my reasons. It's our only vehicle (I work from home and my wife is a stay at home mom so there's no real need for a second vehicle) and we tow quite frequently. Whether it's taking the tractor to my mom's house to do some work for her or towing the horse trailer to horse shows twice a month. I need a truck that's going to do the job I want with very little to no downtime.

You guys are making me want a new truck. I drive a lot for work and have racked up 123k on my 2014 ram ecodiesel with the crew cab. It's been a great truck and averages 26 mph mixed driving. It's in great shape but the allure of a new one seems to get me every 3-4 years

For those thinking about a used vehicle...

The sub-prime meltdown has begun and used car prices are falling. Trucks are more in demand but, they will follow too. Cash buyers will have their pick by late fall and they say the best prices will be next year or perhaps 2019. Its estimated that used car prices may fall by 50% by the time this is all over. Think 2008 on steroids. And, the competition of low-priced late model used vehicles will make manufacturers lower new vehicle prices through incentives.

Boatloads of leased vehicles are getting turned in early and manufacturers are seeing as much as $10,000 less in value than what they originally leased the vehicle out for. In other words, the lease underwriters (manufacturers) are going to take massive hits because the cars are not worth what they thought they would be worth at the end of the lease period. For anyone finishing up a lease, if you want to buy out that vehicle, the prices will never be better.

Another note for people interested in cars: The rental companies (Avis/Budget/etc) are seriously looking at going out of business in the next 12-24 mos. Rentals are way down and the dive in used sales is killing the margins they usually enjoy on fleet sales. Competition with Uber and Lyft has killed their business model. If you need a good deal on a nicer rental car, they should be dealing like mad this fall and winter. If your kid needs a reliable car for school, a low-mile rental could be a nice find.

A buddy in Ohio was wanting a new pickup to haul his toy hauler. He priced up a mid-line RAM and was waiting on incentives when his dealer called. They had a 2016 top-of-the-line on the lot with a MSRP just shy of $75k and he ended up getting it for the same price as the mid-line 2017 ($60k) he was thinking of ordering. The only option it didn't have was the rear air-bag levelers which he put on himself. Its quiet, gorgeous, and it handles well. But what blows him away is, it gets great gas mileage (Cummins diesel) but cranks 900 ft/lbs of torque when you need it. He sent me a picture of the rear axle when he was doing the air bag install: Looked like commercial truck rear end an his is a one-ton truck! Beefy be good under 900 ft/lbs of torque!

Be safe out there...

Gotta agree with CCR, rental cars are hitting the auctions. I picked up a 1 year old 24K mile car for half price of new. Nice to get rid of the wife's car payment and get into this cheap.

Buddy's two year old ram 1500 had air suspension. It went out on him,5700 to fix. Trading it worked out to less money. New one had no air ride. I will be adding bags when time permits
Running a ford ecoboost at 17-18 mpg and 97 chevy 5.7 vortec was getting 19 mpg, almost 20 years advancement in technology and close to the same mileage. I dont get it.
Diesels are getting better all the time, mileage wise anyway. Just a lot darn harder to fix.

The problem is, you'll never get into a diesel for cheap. Unless it's high miles or has been beat on. The engines alone cost more than most used vehicles.

Even if overall car values drop, diesel trucks will still remain high priced in relative terms due to their reliability and utility. Most farmers, contractors, and haulers can't even work without a diesel.

The only way I see diesel trucks dropping in value is if the price of diesel fuel skyrockets.

Yeah air suspension on anything that's meant to work is never a good idea. Airbag helpers are a good option when towing, but I'd never rely solely on airbag suspension setups for reliability.

Just down at the Ford dealer looking at the new 17's today. A mere $70K for s fully loaded beauty. My '12 only has 40K on it, so it'll be a few years till I need a new one, but they sure are nice. 440 HP, and 925 FP of Torque ( crank, not at the wheels)
