Hi Bill.

The previous structure may well still be standing but even with 2 beams of that size you are under spec for any loading above self-supported load.

As A rule for a clear span, the calculation is span divided by 20 plus 20 mm or 1 inch. If you want to go with the 2 by beams I would suggest making them flitch beams by adding a section of either 18 gauge steel or 1/2 plywood and fixing these with coach bolt through the neutral axis- the middle.
The deflection is calculated with two factors dead load = structural weight - all components and live load, wind and snow. You can not always be sure that all the load with distributed evenly - UDL and not a point load. It might be OK. But as it is impossible to allocate 100% UDL I would size up.

Also, you are not showing any diagonal wind bracing to the corners of the side or rear structures. I assume the structure is open and not closed.

Just a thought- by no means a structural analysis.

Thank you, I definitely appreciate your input and will take it into consideration. It definitely could not hurt to have some plywood sandwichwed between the two 2x6s, can even go to 2x8s. And yes there will be diagonal side bracing both on the sides corners and rear.

Like I said this is definitely a work in progress and I have several months to complete the final design.

And I definitely welcome anyone else's input that has building experience.

May start a on stand
before the dirt scoop, otherwise I have to
"Look for a tree to rest my post hole digger up against" :D

Going to steal SkylineAcres16 design http://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28369
with a few mods, design is in process. :D

Got my PHD Stand complete, it has a 2' X 4' footprint, and is quite sturdy.
Most I have seen are 4 x 4 construction but that seemed a bit over-kill,
after all you are only holding it upright, with little to no side to side weight.

I made the hookup / disconnect as easy as possible,
Here goes.......................

INSTALLATION

Back up and hook up the 3-point,
(at this point the end of the boom is between the
PTO output shaft and the top link bracket),
raise it about 2" and slide the boom pin in
(adjusting up/down minimally as needed),
Pull the driveshaft up from the storage dowel and attach to PTO,
raise it about another 2" and slide out the cross beam,
stow the cross beam.
Drive away!

REMOVAL

Back up to stand. Lower cutting head bit into the 1" hole,
Disconnect driveshaft from PTO and place on the storage dowel,
Slide the cross beam under boom and lower about another 2",
Pull out the boom pin, (adjusting up/down minimally as needed),
Lower an additional 2"; (at this point the end of the boom is again
between the PTO output shaft and the top link bracket),
disconnect the 3 point.
Drive away!

Quite a build you have there! Very nice. Have you moved the whole thing around with pallet forks yet?

Thank You,
I have a set of forks sitting there that I need to make the attachments for my FEL before they are actually usable.

That was actually going to be the winter project but so many other things kept "falling in my lap" so to speak, ie. new found implements. :D

I pushed a big ole bunch of wet heavy snow. It was like moving quick sand. BUT - I got'er done even though my gloves were soaked and the rest of me was wet. When I dug down she bogged 500 rpm from WOT, but quickly recovered. All in all an interesting birthday. Oh we did take the grands to DQ for those great $5 lunches. :D

Picked up another one today,

Short story, had to go to Cañon City yesterday to renew my CDL License,
5 minutes there or an all day excursion in Colorado Springs.
So coming home up CO-9 I spotted a farm with piles of "metal stuff" for sale.
He had two boom poles, one bent one not $75 each, I went back today and
picked up the clean one. Turns out his son-in-law Coby works with me at Park County.

Small world.

I think it is a Leinbach, I say that only because the warning decal looks identical to
one of the ones on my Post Hole Auger but with a different part number

I was going to make one, have a few plans from the web,
but between material and time, I doubt I could do it for $75 :D

Time to make it Orange, weather permitting

Picked up the DR PTO 4.5" wood chipper this AM.....

He ran it for me sounded good, no bearing noise,
chipped the green I brought and he had some dead,
did a good job for dull blades :p
Was asking $650,
by text said it was mine for $500,
walked away with it for $400 :)

Came with an extra chute, blade and blow back shield.

It is in good shape...

Needless to say, it is already torn down, ready for new paint / hardware. :D

Came with Cat 0 pins need to change those too much play.

Finished up with the re-furb of the DR Chipper I picked up last week.
New paint, new stainless hardware, and a freshly sharpened knife.
Also got rid of the CAT0 hitch pins and installed CAT1s so there is less wobble.

Still waiting on the new decals, I ordered the Logo decals from DR (those were $1.95 ea) ? ;)
and the safety ones I created on the computer and ordered from my printer today.
(DR wanted anywhere from $8-$13 each ? I can get them all printed for under $30) :D

I guess birds like orange too. I happened to look and found a bird had started making a nest under the hood. So....I pulled a bird nest today. That could have caused a little excitement
With Spring around the corner, an inspection is a good idea.....
BTW....had an ATV once that started running horrible. Checked everything and found out a dirt dobber had built a nest in the tail pipe. Removed nest and back to normal.
Beware ....they live among us.

Due to the fact it was so "Dry-Rot"
is that correct for fiberglass,
I got a hand full of splinters just working on it.

It was in need of being replaced, so eventually it will be. :D
But I was not going to deal with that POS ever again. :p

EEEK, I can still feel those damn things!

Picked up a 3-Point Dirt Scoop over the weekend,
Has been on Craigs-List over a month,
owner was asking $225, got it for $165, :)
Made by a company called Southeast Mfg Co.
They were apparently out of Neodesha Kansas,
but I can not find any other information about them,,
Always nice to know a little history of who made my stuff.

It is the RIGHT color, but still needs some repainting

Finally got around to refurbishing / repainting the rear dirt scoop.

Only managed to scratch it in a few small places on reassembly,
but once it gets used that will be a mute point :D

Added a linkage to the dump lever, not sure what was stock
Also put CAT1 pins at all four corners.

Here is the dirt scoop hooked-up,
I did have to reverse the 3-point pins
to alleviate some tire rubbing. :p

Which means I now have to drop the linkage
to hook-up and drop-off

Oh well, it's just a pin and washer! :D

Bill R. you work very hard at your attachments, but it sure seems like you run across more stuff than any 3 guys. Congratulations
