Introduction and questions..

Hi, Just bought a 3540HST with a LA724loader with a 4 in 1 bucket.. I'll get back to the bucket in a minute.
Not new to tractors, just new here. This is my third Kubota, M5400, L3010, and now this one.. couple fords and a David Bradley before that..

First question on a rotary cutter (brush hog or whatever) . Kubota says this tractor will take a 6 footer, seems to be getting mighty long at that size and a lot of my working will be in the pine woods of South Carolina.. Thinking a 5 footer, whatcha think? Ok or too small?

Back to the 4 in 1 bucket, all my Kubotas and the David Bradley have had loaders and I can work them pretty well for grading,spreading and things like that. BUT.. I seem to be a complete idiot concerning the 4 in 1.. is there a tutorial on how to use one? And I don't mean the controls, but how to actually use one on the ground . I've seen a couple little u-tube videos on people using one, but I'm looking for more of a teaching arrangement.Is there one out there? I've looked and have not seen any..

Cant help you with the edjamacation on the bucket.....never had one that fancy !

As for the brush hog, if your tractor is lets say....4' 8" wide, just guessing, then I would get a 5' er, but if your tractor is wider than 5' - 0" - if it will handle the 6' - get it!!!!! Never go to small on the hog. YOU always want the cutter to be WIDER than the tire settings. You run next to a fence line and you want to cut the grass and not get hung in the fence.

A 6'er will be a hellva lot more $$$$ than a 5' er. I have never seen a used 6' under $600, most hit the 1k mark if they are any good. A 5' er will be $$ cheaper. However - time = money, if you are trying to cut in a "fast" time then the 6' will reduce time by about 20% or so...while using about the same fuel/hour. It is one of those pay me now or latter type deals, pay more for the 6' and cut quicker, or less for the 5' and cut longer.

Looking at your tractor - it says that a 72" MMM works on it ......I would get a 6' brush hog and never look back!

Welcome forum from Alabama. I agree with Hokie. I have a 55.1" wide L3200 and I got the 5' (60") cutter.

I have a 6' on my l3540. I have a grappler on here that I swap out vs. a 4 and 1. HTH

I have a Grand L3540 also. I have a Land Pride 72" finish mower. It is to much for this tractor. The engine is 35HP but the PTO put out just 28.5 HP. I now wish I had a 3940. I can mow faster with my Z-Turn than this tractor.

4 in one bucket is sweet. That is usually put on crawlers. Need to hunt up all the videos you can get your eyes on, so versatile and so many uses.

I think you will be frustrated with a 5' er.........

Get the 6' and find a good deal - and hopefully the grass will not be tooooo tall!
