Can the cylinder be repaired? It is leaking around the rod.

Most likely its the seal. Your first step is to remove the cylinder, then take the end cap off and get the seal for it. Or take tge cylinder in to a hydraulic repair shop.

Your cylinder is single-acting, similar to the one on a GR2100. You don't actually remove the gland. There's no separate piston; the rod acts as a plunger. There's a clip to remove through the hose port; then the rod can be pulled out to replace the seal and wioer.
