Why cant I seen to find just a complete set of 1/2 inch sockets

I've been buying tools now for almost 25 years. Snap on has just gotten unbearable. I have a dealer that comes by most mondays. Unfortunately, he's young and without a tech background and just simply doesn't get it.

He's just unaware of what most of us have dealt with the past couple of decades.

He'll come in pushing this (on black friday sale for the ultra low price of $699)

to techs that have socket drawers way fuller than mine, and just doesn't stand a chance, poor feller.

And now with mandatory updating with newer model scanners and FCA compliance, they've only further priced themselves out of our reach.

I only have five Snap-on tools including a socket that I found and four metric triple square bit socket drivers. I bought those bits 20 years ago when I was replacing front driveshafts on an Audi.

One of the most useful sets I bought years ago for around $60 is a Craftsman 1/4" and 3/8" set that came in a plastic case. It's not a quality set but the fact that it's in a case and has a reasonable number of standard and metric sockets, allen wrenches and a nut driver set with a good selection of bits makes it handy. It lives in my F250 mostly, but I often find myself carrying it around the property for various projects.

Thats insanity. I am all for buying quality tools, but that is just too much for me.

The good part is that my box from "back in the day" is increasing in value apparently.

What I found interesting is that my BIL's dealership has "built in" tool boxes now.

I saw his big ass box in the garage this past Saturday, and I thought he retired or quit.

But he told me the dealership put in "built in tool boxes", but you still have to buy your own tools.


I personally would not like that.

I like/liked having my tools, in my box.

That way if/when they pissed me off, I can/would just call a wrecker, tell them to shove their job up their ass, load it up and go...

BTDT more than once......ahhhh the good ole days of being young and "spunky"
