I just want a set of standard SAE 1/2 inch sockets but but it seems nobody sells that without including other things. I just want.

I am looking for 1/2 inch SAE from 1/4" to about 1 1/2 inch sizes

it seems they are either a mixture of attachment sizes with an adapter or a mixture deep well /standard or half metric and half SAE.

any suggestions without breaking the bank?

1/4, 5/16, and 3/8 sockets all in 1/2" drive? Way overkill and cumbersome.

Doubt anyone even makes a 1/4" socket in 1/2" drive. This is what a 5/16" socket looks like.

It’s because nobody needs a whole set.

You just buy the one you are missing.

This is about as complete of a set you'll find. Yes, it has both standard and deep sockets but all the common sizes are there for both. https://www.gearwrench.com/all-tool...drive-master-sae-socket-set-foam-storage-tray

But seriously, walk into a harbor freight or go online, or find something similar in your area. There you shall find what you need.

Inherited a 3/4” drive set from my Uncle. About 1-1/2” to around 3”. Think I used it maybe 2 times in the last 20 years, but pretty sure those two times saved a lot of time and frustration.

I agree. I have quite a few TEKTON tools including a 3/4" socket set and they are high quality. I like that TEKTON provides information on where their tools are made with many of them made in Taiwan as stated. If you look on their website under "Specs" for each tool or set they have "Country of Origin".

Somebody always derails posts like this, so allow me. 1/4 thru 3/8 get 3/8 drive. 7/16 thru 1" get 1/2 drive. Over 1" get 3/4 drive. Get adapters for your 1/2" bar and ratchet to fit 3/8 and 3/4. Long-term, you'll need a 3/4 breaker bar and 3/8 ratchet and breaker.

I can't remember the last time I've used my 1/2" drive sockets on anything under 3/4 of an inch. It's way to easy to snap off or over tighten the small bolts using a 1/2" drive ratchet.

I'll use 1/2" drive on smaller stuff, but also have 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive torque wrenches, and torque sticks for the impact gun (which i qualified with a torque wrench).

For me it's usually handy to grab one rachet and one set of sockets, though that depends on what I'm taking apart--vehicles are a smorgasbord, tractors are competitively standardized...except for Kubota, having both metric and imperial in the same areas. 🤨
(thankfully they're usually sizes where either a metric or immediately is "close enough")

gee, it'd be pretty darn easy to snap a 1/4" bolt off using a 1/2" ratchet ! I've done it with my 'little' trusty 3/8" ratchet ( rider HST case bolts.....)
I've got 3 or 4 , 1/2" ratchets still on the cards, that I'll never use..free replacements for lifetime warranty ones. Also have a 24" Johnson bar, I've only used 2-3 times, again under warranty. I was impressed Proto did replace it seeing how they didn't make it.
and yes, you can have too many tools. last year I donated 2 1/2 sets to local high school as I knew the wood shop teacher.

Depends on big your "bank is" I guess.

https://shop.snapon.com/product/Shallow,-inches,-Chrome-(1-2")/13-pc-1-2"-Drive-6-Point-SAE-Flank-Drive-Shallow-Socket-Set-(3/8-1-1/8")/313TWYA

What pisses me off most is if you lose a socket/wrench with the "value brands" you may as well buy an entire set. Because they charge a stupid amount for "one socket" VS. a set.

But with Snap On. They tend to "bend you over" equally.......
Preach it brother

I've been buying tools now for almost 25 years. Snap on has just gotten unbearable. I have a dealer that comes by most mondays. Unfortunately, he's young and without a tech background and just simply doesn't get it.

He's just unaware of what most of us have dealt with the past couple of decades.

He'll come in pushing this (on black friday sale for the ultra low price of $699)
7 pc 1/2" Drive 6-Point SAE Flank Drive® Shallow Universal Socket Set (9/16-15/16") | 307SUY | Snap-on Store
to techs that have socket drawers way fuller than mine, and just doesn't stand a chance, poor feller.

And now with mandatory updating with newer model scanners and FCA compliance, they've only further priced themselves out of our reach.

I haven't bought SnapOn for over 5 decades. Guy came by every 2 weeks ,so we bought a LOT from him($1,000-1500 every month at least ). One screwdriver the tip 'chipped', asked for a replacement. He said 'No, you modified the handle' WTF? yes, ground 1/4" off to get into a tight electrical cabinet(BTW this is at STELCO, was #1 steel plant in Canada..)
I said 'really ? you won't replace for free', NO, you modified it.....
Fine, there's the door , never ever come back or call.
Always wondered what his boss said after that.....
