I am up in Wayne County. We get a late start in the garden with the lake keeping us chilled in the spring. Was originally from Poughkeepsie before 9/11 brought the city folks and traffic up.
Nice area.

Not sure if Wayne Co., but used to go to Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge regularly years ago.

Sister is in Orleans Co. She and husband are vegetable farmers. Have some muck/black dirt soils on their place. Great for veggy production.

We are in a large muck area and the best tasting potatoes in the world are grown all around us. Our grandkids are in Seneca Falls that is a couple miles from Montezuma. Beautiful area but taxes are becoming insane because of all the farm exemptions with few residential homes to carry the load of all the state mandated Medicade handouts. Made a big mistake retiring in NY. Hopefully when the grandkids are grown we will escape.

About lost Dirt Diggler in the jungle. I’m glad we got a good bit of rain over the past few weeks, but man, did the weeds try to takeover.

Damn weeds. Found a puddle of oil under old DD. Pulled all this crap out. Now to try and remove 30+ year old tine holders.

They are not very big, but they have good color and taste sweet. (First one I have eaten off the tree I planted yrs ago).

I had to prop the limbs up.
Following year I sold that house.
I sold my peach tree!:cry:

It’s been just 4 years for these. All the fruit trees I planted seem to be just starting to bear a small crop this year.

I’ll be doing a variety of wildlife plantings over the next few years as part of a management plan…I will be planting species that will also bear fruit. I am hoping to share with the wildlife.

I used to grow about 300 vines of pinot noir grape, and made wine from that. I moved from that property a few years ago, but Ive been becoming more interested in fruit wines. What kind of yeast, it any, do you add? You ever try natural fermentation?

I have had good results with Lalvin Bourgovin RC 212, little longer ferment time but I think it leaves more berry flavor. Have not tried natural fermentation.

Anyone having a good harvest this year?

Ohio has been pretty dry. I live in a D3 (extreme drought) area, but our other place has lake effect (which applies in summer too so I still have to mow every time get there).

We’ve managed to get a few peaches despite the dry spell and made some drunken jam, we’ve just taken the first batch of winter squash off. 🥃

Seems almost every bell pepper plant turned out red. I raised 24 green bell peppers from seed, bought 4 green plants, 4 red plants and 4 yellow plants from a greenhouse. We froze and dehydrated some while they were still green. I did get 4 yellow plants.
There is kale / beets (mostly weeds) in rows to the left and spinach / kale "patch" to the right of the peppers. It's been desert dry here for about a month and a half. I have been watering the fall veggies for a while.

I am in SE Indiana, short distance from the Ohio River. We are in a severe drought per the Drought Monitor.

Anyone having a good harvest this year?
Ours has varied. Some didn't produce as much as typical. Cucumbers were tops. I canned close to 70 jars of dill and bread and butter pickles. Jalapenos have been coming in slow enough that the wife had me combine with cherry peppers (she also liked the aesthetics). Tomatillos were also strong. Okra was weak. Tomatoes have had a steady haul but are slowing down. Probably green tomatoes from here on out. Besides frying them, I typically can some picalilli.

A variety of recently canned items below. Pickles, tomato sauce, peppers, bbq sauce, and the wife made some catchup (the small jars) which was a nice addition to the canning rotation.
