So there I am last week doing some "trail blazing" and although its pretty flat, I found an area that "dips" a "wee bit"

Nothing like y'all PNW'ers got, but just like an area where I wanted to go and the front would dip down a little, making it "tougher" to work on, but not impossible.

Well I grab onto this "sapling" that I just cut down with my new "ASS RIPPING BEAST" of a brush cutter (BTW a special thanks to @Flintknapper for suggesting it, I love that thing!!! )

It was kinda long/tall but I thought I could "grunt it out" without cutting it down some.

Well as I am climbing the "dip" backwards, the "sapling" catches on another tree and my rear wheels start a spinning a little.

There is a storm blowing in, so instead of taking the time to cut the "sapling" down I give it a little "back up and ram it" action.......................a few times........

That turns out to be a mistake: Before long, I am sitting on my frame, buried up to my axles, in 4wd with the diff lock engaged......I am stuck big time......Mo$%^%$$%^^&&***(*^%$#@@$^&*

BUT I STILL GOT THAT DAMN TREE IN THE GRAPPLE!!!!!!!!!


Hahahaha.....Anywho, I bellow for the wife, and she shows up with the Rhino, a snatch strap, and a shovel.

Luckily, Stonewall is on the back and although he can't pull me out, he can lift the ass end up high enough for me to "fill in" under the rear tires with the shovel.

Now I feel a little "tinkle" on my head, and
Just then, I notice that the starboard front tire has "spun off" the rim.

Not wanting to waste any time, we performed a series of "emergency tugging, and yanking maneuvers" that I bet are NOT OSHA approved, and about 40 minutes later, I was limping the General Lee and Stonewall back to the shop.

Well my little "cottage tool box" ended up having the right size socket, but I can't find my "jack stands" to save my life, so a few minutes later, I find enough scrap pieces of wood to get a "combat jack stand" cobbled together.

Looks like a scene from "Sanford and Son"

Shortly after that I discover the "real damage"

After a long series of "F Bombs" and various other phrases (most of which have no actual grammatical meaning, but they make me feel better.....hahahah) I decide to "fix it"......

Now some of my "less than proud" days as a mechanic, had me partaking in some rather "shifty practices" to cover my ass, and one of those practices was when you are "hot rodding" in a customers car and smash into a curb, you had best figure out how to fix it before the boss/customer sees it.

That "skill set" is about to be revisited.......


I decide that I am going to try to "whack it back" into shape.

Not wanting to "chip or scratch" it any more that whatever has already been done, I decide to put a 'wood block" between the hammer, and the wheel.

And yes I know it's a puny hammer, but when thats all you got.......

Well I kinda knew in my heart that it was not gonna work and after 1 "whack"

this happens.

Now to "break out the big guns"

Man I was swinging that hammer like a cross between a Jedi Blacksmith and John Henry......

Just a "whoopin and a wompin, and whompin and a whoopin". (and yes, I just watched Blazing Saddles the other day )


Not too shabby, if I do say so myself.......

Now it's off to the dealer, to drop it off.

I'm in the PNW but my front tire doesn't look like that.

It's still new but I've sure put the front loader through its paces.

Welp.....1 week and $67.50 later, the General Lee rides again.....


Damn......i just started using a "i pod" to take pictures and now the files are too large.

Gotta figure out how to make them smaller so I can post them....

So the "overarching" question is,

I wonder if I spun the tire off first, thus causing me to get stuck, and then damaged the rim....OR

Did I get it stuck first and then by "rocking" it back and forth, spin the rim?


There is actually a third possibility that I am thinking is "possible"

At some point a limb "knocked off' the pin securing the "loader stand leg" and it dropped down. I have no idea when though.

Since it does contact the tire, I wonder if when i was going back and forth, loader leg "jammed" into the tire and spun it off.


This is turning out to be like an episode of "In Search Of"...hahahaha

There is an "unexplained gouge" on one of the the tire treads.

I will post a pic when I figure out how to use that damn "Ipod" thing.

That could be.....I hate to admit it, but it has been awhile since I checked the tire pressures.

Time to get your front tires foam filled!

It actually is a very good value and not crazy expensive because the front tires are small. Never regretted foam filling the front tires on my B2910 20+ years ago. Never regretted it.

Edit: Guess I repeated “never regretted it” but that is truly the way I feel…

I've had two tires come off the bead in the last 20-ish years. Mine were both cheap fixes. First was a field repair without outside help and the second this past Winter was a $10 trip to the tire store in town.

Rolled a tire off

Was making a run along the edge of the road to clear the shoulder for the postman. Looked down at the RF tire and saw it was half off the rim. The outside tire bead was off the outside of the rim. Fortunately it was an easy fix. It was simple to use the FEL for a jack and pull the wheel...
