A little bit of all, including used. Main thing is to do your homework.

Craigslist is where I bought 90%; 6% was from TBN; 4% was from a store, Leinbach Line before they were bought out (sold out) to Everything Attachments. That was a Post Hole Digger for under $400.

Have not looked at Market Place, but frankly, I'm done buying!!!

Everywhere. Many older farm implements are very well built and last for decades. I would rather buy something old/used and better built for 1/2 the price of something new and cheaper built. I bought my LP box blade and forks new and regret not buying those used. I bought my HSI grapple new and have zero regrets. FB marketplace and Craigslist are great places to find used stuff.

Why buy new when used will get the job done. My 6 foot 3 point blade cost $200 bucks. Hardly used. Always look on CL or facebook market place before buying new. Unless I need it real bad, I hunt for a used one.

I have bought them from everywhere. Have to do your homework and buy the heaviest one, thicker metal is usually better.

Typically each dealer will carry a couple of implement brands and have the ability to order others. Used is great, when you can find something that meets your specifications, but often a frustrating endeavor. When I bought my last rear blade new from a dealer, I had been looking at used ones for 6 months. None of the used implements met my objectives for weight or offset capability. Used is only good when you don’t have to compromise your suitability needs.

Do most folks purchase implements from a dealer, online or a place like Tractor Supply?
It's a mix for me. I might have missed one or two but here's the break down.

Online
Good Works Tractor Co (1)
Everything Attachments (5)

Locally
Craigslist (5)
Farm equipment dealer about an hour away (1)
Kubota dealer near me (13)
Kubota dealer in Sheridan, WY (2)
Ex coworker (1)

Mainly through my preferred dealer with inventory on hand or very short wait

Second option has been online Artillian, Everything Attahcments, and finally Titan. (Have not purchased through EA since they shat the bed.

I’ve tried online auctions but I don’t have the cajones for those folks…maybe you can find a unicorn at an auction, but I sure haven’t had the right the price point. I’ve given up on the auctions.

Most of mine were Dealer bought since they rolled it in with the tractor.

But I did get my Box Blade from Homestead, and was very happy with it.

I also got a "Free Backhoe" with the purchase of this wonderful $10,000 hat.

Hurry up, before the "hat sale" is over.

I hear ya.

I am quickly realizing auctions are very "hit and miss".

One of 2 things is happening.

Either the owner has a "shill bidder" bidding their stuff up to a predetermined minimum,

Or people are just "batshit crazy".

Honestly, I think it is a little of both. I’ve legitimately tried to buy stuff and I have seen rusted scrap go for price of new or higher in some cases. I am sure with patience you can find a unicorn. The other thing is it’s really hard to tell if something wrong or how much TLC is needed. Some places will answer emails or calls and others won’t. Usually sales are final, so it a buyer beware for sure. Once figure in the sellers fee and getting something loaded and shipped (usually have to pick up pretty quick or pay a shipper) that implement that was loved hard and left in fence row gets expensive real quick.

I think best bet to buy used is buy local as much as possible where you can go look at it yourself or with a friend and bring home on your trailer if it makes sense.

I just started looking for a "real lathe", and I am approaching this exact conclusion at warp speed.

I thought I was just an impatient, spoiled a$$hole?

Well if I am, at least I have good company..... 🍸 (y)

I know a couple of guys who farm but go to farm auctions regularly, I think as a break in their routine. Kind of like city folk going to a movie on a regular basis. They buy things often just because of price, but some things they do buy for their use. They end up with a yard/barn of various items and equipment. If I stop by to look for something and don't find it I can ask them to look for something.

I don't think I have ever bought a new implement other then a loader or 3rd function from a dealer.

I find bargains everywhere. That's part of the fun of owning a tractor.
