A few weeks ago I joined this forum as I was looking to buy a tractor. I have a BX2660 which I love but need something larger, and will keep my BX.
I was asking advice about an L2501, or an L3901. I received very good information from this forum, good suggestions and good advice, and was pretty much committed to the 3901 when my wife said, I think you should get the L4701. Well I and everyone here agreed. (always good to please the wife).
Today I talked to my dealer and asked for a quote on the L4701 with a BH92, SSQC loader, Grapple, and Box Blade.
He gave me a good quote, but said “The MX4800 is only $800 more” and gives you a lot more Tractor with greater lift power on the loader ……
Someone mentioned the MX on my first post.
Does not take much to convince me! I am pretty much committed now on the MX4800 but since there is a lot of experience out there I thought I would ask opinions.
I am basically clearing and maintaining land, I have my 10 acres, plus some new land (20 acres) down on the Columbia which parts of need to be cleared. I am looking at clearing brush, removing stumps, swamping in a few trails. Dropping a few small trees. I still have the BX for mowing and small work, If I can’t fit the MX between trees I will simply cut them down (I have a lot of trees) So I am not worried about it being too big or not maneuverable enough.

Also, Is the “Draft Control Kit” a good option?
Any info would be much appreciated.

Since I have joined I have enjoyed the photos on this forum, so will include a few here of my BX and some of the work I am doing.

Thanks for the help,

Mike

Mike - Like the first picture! - title ought to read "stump jumpin' with the bx!"

and the last picture.......not sure, but I swear that guy needs a shave!

And the draft control is worth every dime!

If you're keeping the BX then you don't have to cut the trees down, just another trip to go play.....uh....I mean...work.

to me, that's a no brainer. the MX is quite a bit more tractor....fyi, you can get the 5800 for not much more, but lots more powa!! I was betweeen the 5800 and my grand L, do I miss the power, maybe a little, but I love my grand L, however the MX has a great following and seem to be rock solid tractors as well. in my mind, you can't go wrong with either of your choices, but being it's only a slight upsale, I wouldn't hesitate.

I agree with skeets :D:D It doesn't stop. You get one kubota, then ya gotta get another :D Then all the implements and goodies with it  Then you can't forget the tools as well to work on them  It's an endless cycle my friend.

We still haven't settled on a kubota anonymous meeting location and time yet  But welcome to the club!!! :D:D

Pat,
I use a disc and a harrow. Not often, couple times a year. I have read draft control is good for a box blade as well.

My dealer will add draft control for 400, and telescopic Link ends and stabilizers for 300, both look like good deals.

Yes, by rights those are ground engaging pieces. Under heavy soil conditions, it could help with loss of traction. The box blade would have to have scarfier teeth to be beneficial.

If the tractor is set with the proper ballast, tires and tire pressures. On top of that a properly sized tillage piece! You may or may not need draft control, again depending on soil type and conditions.

Agreed, it usually doesn't stop, slow down maybe, stop no. We have tractors with and without draft control and don't use it and have a LP3584 as well as LP ripper. I used it when farming, but not now, so can't help on that.

If you can swing it, go with a MX52/5800 and if you can afford it step up to a GL of same HP.

I hated writing the check on my L5740HSTC, but I'm glad I did; stil have the BX2660 too.

I think it stops when we die.
I don't mean that as a downer, but isn't life about modifying our environment to meet our needs? Those of us who buy tractors may be more literal and "hands-on" than most, and I admit to that!
I say - never let it end!

Mike, I went through the same thing as you last fall. Looked at the L series, and the dealer asked if I looked at the MX. I figured it was a lot more to move up, but only $1000 more for the MX4800 then add the same for each step up MX5200, and MX5800. I got the MX4800 more than enough power for me. The step up gave me a heavier front end, bigger wheels on front, and cat 2, 3 point hitch. The loader arms, and bucket will add to the price also. Interest free loan also sold me on it. I am very happy with what I have. Good luck, Barry
