Funny. you hear how food, delivery fees, this that and the other all need to increase when fuel prices rise. Some companies make serious efforts to reach out to the public and explain their price increases. Fair enough.

However, I NEVER hear about the price of goods and services coming back down when the fuel prices go down.
I disagree. Look at what happened to just fuel prices when President Trump took office. Within a year gas and diesel prices went down more than a dollar. Food prices followed suit. Construction materials and even furniture prices went down. Heating costs for those using fossil fuels went down too. I would dare say that all costs went down. Heck, if you follow such things as exchange rates, the Canadian dollar also benefited from President Trump's policies.

Food prices went down? Not in my neck of the woods. I dare say I have not seen much revert back to a lower price here, other than fuel itself. The price might have stayed fixed, but they certainly have not become cheaper. There are some exceptions I am sure.

I was thinking $2.75 a gallon for regular gasoline by summer here, but it is inching on up. I was out yesterday working, which is two counties over from where I live and saw this. It can still be found for under $2.50/gallon here, but not for long I'm sure.

WA is expensive because it has a high gasoline tax. But WA has no state income tax.
The subject is not about taxes, it is about the price of gas. Our gas prices in the Puget Sound area have gone up 90 cents just since January. On January 8, 2021 I paid $2.499 per gallon. On March 12, 2021 I paid $3.399 per gallon.

If you want to talk about taxes I can do that too. Why would we have an income tax when we already have a 10.1% sales tax? Property taxes are outrageously high. We have some of the highest license plate fees in the nation. The state taxes on gas did not go up since January though. So, you saying that our fuel prices are high because of state taxes is correct as far as that goes but it is not the reason why prices have gone up 90 cents per gallon in just 2 months.

Edited to correct the prices paid for gas.

The oil price that producers got fell well below $40 per bbl when travel and demand shut down last year. Now with recovering demand and less supply due less domestic production from fewer drillers left, the prices of production, transportation as well as supply chain all mean prices at the pump as well as heating costs are going up.

I won't get political, but being in New York State, I can relate to taxes, just as you said armylifer.

I'll just say that the tax structure here doesn't abide by my beliefs...income, sales, excise, property (governments (x3 for me), school), ad valorem; we cover all the bases, and right to the hilt.

The Governor is having some widely-publicized "issues." I wouldn't be sorry if he resigned as many of his colleagues suggest.

No wonder but for very limited areas, NYS is losing population at a rate among the highest in the nation.

Our citizens vote with their feet.

Now back to fuel pricing..... :geek:

We're at $2.90 today....thinking about $0.60-0.70 over a couple months ago.

$2.50 here in NC today. I think I saw it up to $2.80 previously, $2.50 was definitely lower than it's been for a few weeks.

I filled up today, $2.479.

Fuel; the only commodity that I know of that you can not buy as advertised. ie, Buy exactly a gallon and hand the clerk your $$. Now lets watch the clerk make change for 9/10 of a cent.

Gas prices going up just means driving my car more. Gas has been so expensive that I have a car and a truck, it’s cheaper to pay insurance and maintenance on the truck and car than it would be do drive my 200km a day. Although I have been eying up the new 3L duramax chev now has, or the f150 hybrid. Both can tow what I haul around however the f150 can tow more than the chev. Both would be cheap enough for me to commute in with the cost of fuel.

took a little short trip this weekend. Filled up a couple weeks ago, so I had to fill up again. Shocked was the word to describe. $3.509/gal-and that's GAS. Diesel is still hovering around $3.009/gal but going up, since supply is running low. Sam's (Murphy) is out of gas by 1400 daily. Clerk says they can't get enough. According to those in the know, the price rise is not going to stop anytime soon.

it was said that we are going to transition away from oil. Take that for whatever it's worth. I have an idea....(lips zipped)

glad I have my scooter. Over 100mpg. If that's not good enough I also have horses.
