Grandson asked if he could "drive the tractor" .......

Well Hells bells, he is almost 6, so why not?

I had to "over-ride" the seat switch and use my Ghili-suit as a "spacer" , and after a quick run down of the controls, he was "Tractor'in" like a pro.

#1 rule was to wear the seat belt.

#1A was to stay "far away" from the house and cars.

He had a blast driving it and digging a hole.

I wish i had that experience when I was a kid! I was never allowed to touch the tractors as they were deemed to dangerous. Or the manner in which i would operate them would be dangerous.

Love it! - started my three on my little Ford. My youngest girl named and drove "Clementine" on a test run when new but they are older now (i.e. not as interested after having a license)

BTW - your picture reminds me that I need to fab up a CS scabbard - balancing my big saw with 24" blade on my lap on the way back with wood is getting VERY old.

I understand about the license thing.

The CS scabbard was pretty easy to do with just some scraps of wood and a few bolts. It has worked out well for me so far.

Here is what I did.

I think I was maybe 5 and visiting distant relatives who had a farm near/in San Augustine, TX

I had no experience driving anything.

I was sitting on the tractor-seat (I now realize it was an “N” Ford) …just playin’ with the steering wheel…. the adults were about 50’ away talkin’….

I looked down …and saw what looked like the floor-mounted headlight foot-switch in my Mom’s 54 Ford…. and stepped on it….
…Apparently the gearshift-safety wasn’t working….because the tractor was in-gear …. and when it started I managed to jump clear and ran…. The tractor headed down the hill and across a field full of nearly-ripe corn…wiping out a wide swath….

I don’t recall how things ended… I must have blanked it out of my mind…. but the “old folks” talked about it for years…

Lucky no one was hurt.
