What type of grapple for my B2601? Tightly closed or more open?

Newbie looking for advice regarding what type of grapple to get . I looked at the land pride and noticed that style does not have much of a gap when closed between the lid and the bottom . I've also looked at this MTL that has a larger opening when the lid is down .

So I'm wondering if this is the major difference between these two styles, one maybe better for pinching things like brush in the lake and the other with the opening better for grabbing things that are larger. I do not have brush on my 1.6 acres, and will be using the grapple to help me lift things with my aging back . I do heat with firewood and split my own wood so this would be helpful moving large stumps and potentially logs . I'm concerned about the inability to clampdown though with the more open design . Any other considerations or advice with respect to my choice . I have looked at the EA weighed grapple that people seem to really like here . That design also clamps down more narrowly .

I went with the Landpride SGC 0554 for a couple (probably stupid) reasons.
1) Weight: I looked at a few others and they were 300-500 lbs or some such crazy weight. I thought that's nice its heavy duty but I'm losing half my carrying capacity with just the unit itself.
2) My dealer had it in stock right there, and I was going to have him also install the 3rd function, so it made for a nice quick package deal.

I have literally 10 minutes of operating time with it as it is brand new to me, so I can't really tell you if I like it or not yet. I took it back off to run my sweeper all weekend.

Another brand is Artillian for you to check out. They are a little different with removable modules.

Weight is definitely something to keep an eye on. I'd stay under 300lbs with whatever you go with. Also, I prefer the type with the curved lower jaw as it can be used to remove brush also. I have an EA Wicked 55 on order but know there was a 3 month lead time when I ordered it. If the dealer has a 54" Land Pride unit available that's priced similarly you may want to go that route to avoid the wait.

I have the EA 55" Wicked Root Grapple. Depending on what your needs are determines which grapple will work the best for you. The clamshell design has worked well for me. Realizing that any of these grapples work better than no grapple.

Thank you. I'm just very curious if the main difference is in weight and then the amount of open closure when the lid is down. Not sure which functionality would be best for me, a more narrowly closed grapple when the lid is down or one that is more open when the lid is down.

The MTL unit pictured above does have a good pinching action too for pulling out fence posts and small shrubs and stuff.

Really wondering about the advantages disadvantage of the amount of closure.

My two cents, the weight is a bigger issuer than the closure. If you use up a majority of your lifting capacity with the weight of the grapple, it could limit you on some the projects you might want to tackle.

This was just over a year ago so there were EA’s in stock. I only had to wait for shipping time to get it. It has done everything I have asked of it, but it a struggle to pick up multiple rounds of firewood with the single clamshell design. My main reasons for the grapple were brush, and lifting logs and setting them on my sawmill. Which it does both really well.

If I had to do over, with all of the things that are happening with out of stocks and extended lead times, if there was a Land Pride sitting at the dealer that I could get today, I would probably get the Land Pride. I think the EA is a better grapple, but I absolutely hate waiting for stuff. If you can wait, get the EA 55” wicked grapple and don’t look back.

I sent my dad over with his F150 to the terminal, they placed it in the back of his truck and we unloaded it with a couple of chains once he got to the farm.

It is actually light enough a couple strong individuals could unload it (taking it off the pallet of course),

When I picked mine up, we slid it off the dock into my 5x8 utility trailer with no problem. It comes shipped on a pallet that will fit between the wheel wells of a pickup box. The worst thing about picking mine up was it was minus 35 degrees out and I had to be at the freight terminal before 7am. So I had to drive two hours in the dark to be there on time. STILL WORTH IT!!!
