Hello,

I just purchased a 2501 and will have it on a piece of property 1.5 hours from my house. I won’t be able to bring my tools with me each trip out. What tools do you recommend that I need to purchase to keep on site to do maintenance, etc.? If you have recommendations on what brand and where to purchase the tools, that would be welcomed information as well.

Thanks and take care,
Michael

Is it a new tractor? Or previously owned?

lock-n-lube grease gun would be first on my list.
On a new tractor there isn’t much you will need. Make sure all the zerk fittings are tight.
Get some extra hydraulic fluid and some funnels. My dealership had funnels with screw on lids for both ends. I love them. They are always clean.

Thank you for the reply. It is a brand new tractor. Actually walked on the lot to place an order expecting to wait a few months for delivery, but they had one that had just come in and wasn’t on hold. Looking forward to all of the “work” to come.

Take care,
Michael

You will also want to have a couple of large channel locks and large adjustable wrenches; I keep mine in my tractor's tool box. You need them to tighten any fittings that loosen up as you use your tractor and implements/attachments.

Is the tractor going to be kept inside or outside? Do you have a spot to lock the tools?

A good 16 OZ hammer
Adjustable wrenches 2 large 2 smaller
Straight slot screw drivers
Philips Screw drivers
Spray lube
Grease gun Lock and Lube works great
Pliers
Side cutters
A small open end wrench set metric
1/2 socket set metric
3/8 socket set metric
Oil filter wrench

All these can be had at Harbor Freight for pretty cheap that way you are not out a lot of money and can take care of just about anything that pops up.

You shouldn’t need to do much on a new tractor. Make sure everything is tight and the fluids are full.
Besides a standard tool kit that most have for general stuff, you shouldn’t have to touch your tractor for many many hours.

your 50 hour service will come up quick. Get everything ready for that.
Oh. And check the tightness of all your hydraulic fittings. I had a few that were lose and I lost a lot of fluid. At about 100 hours a loader fitting loosened and I lost a lot.

Small air compressor. Tire repair kit.

Wand for compressed air to blow out radiator fins.

Drain pans for fluids and a re-used 5-gal bucket with cap to transport used fluids to disposal.

Small container of engine oil to keep at mark.

Good suggestions here.

I replaced the stock tool box with a much bigger one. I keep a hammer, adjustable wrench, pliers, & screwdriver in that box. Plus various pins.

Roll of mechanics wire to wire up anything that falls down or comes apart. Penetrating fluid to loosen things that are supposed to move, and don't, and duct tape to stop things from moving that aren't supposed to move.

Don't forget a few clean rags to keep on hand to wipe the zerks before greasing. A small flashlight is also good to have on hand. I have two boxes on my B2601 to keep a scraper knife, screw driver, rag, couple extra pins for your attachments in use, hat, gloves, one each of adjustable wrenches,

I thought I had everything I would need….then a couple months ago I had to order an 1 11/16 socket 😂
My grandfather’s S-K socket set had a 19/32” socket.

Only guessing 60 years old….certainly didn’t come with the socket set, but it is S-K.

Set is old, could be 1930-40’s….

No place for that one in those socket holders…..🤔

Those odd ball sizes work good to hammer on rusted fasteners that have gotten smaller as they rust away 😁
