What nobody mentions about a BX

I read a lot and watched a ton of videos before i bought my BX. As a result i was pretty well prepared. But there is one thing I have discocered that nobody mentions. How come nobody talks about the intense diesel particulates that these things give off. I have had a sore throat from the day i got this thing. Lately i wear an N95 mask while working, which helps somewhat. But why doesnt anybody talk about this?

I don't get that with my 2380. I do wear an N95 mask, but that is due to dust when I'm mowing. Never had a problem with diesel smell or smoke/particulates.

Don't think I've seen anyone mention that problem. I did install an extension on the exhaust pipe on my B so at startup, I don't spray it all over the loader. Was not due to me breathing it though. Hmmm...

I have had mine for over 9 years .......... I too turned the exhaust down so carbon black is not over the loader.

Is it a used machine ? I find the kubota's are as clean or cleaner than most. Are you getting a lot of black out of the pipe ? Is your air filter clean ? That will make them run rich.

The B2601 is FAR CLEANER than the 3 JDs I had, using 1/3 less fuel than any of them. Does not even blacken the back of the FEL like the JDs did. It's fuel consumption is 0.4 gph. A JD of equivalent hp would use over 0.6 gph.

Black smoke is unburnt fuel. If yours is putting out a lot then it I would think you might have an air or fueling issue. Not enough air, too much fuel or (if it is anything like my old IDI) maybe an injector or timing issue.

One of the things I like about the LX is the DPF, no smoke, no soot, and after its broken in, no stink.

One thing I noticed about my l2501, besides the smoke on start up, is it is loud. I always wear hearing protection while using any sort of equipment but still, the exaust puts out quite the racket. Does the DPF in your l3310 act as an extra muffler?

thanks for that. I will investigate. FWIW my machine is new, only 30 hours on it so far. But i have been using it in very dusty conditions, so will check the air filter.

After reading the first post, my gut said nobody mentioned the issue because likely only highly sensitive people are disturbed by it.

Nothing against highly sensitive people. Wine tasters probably fall into that category. And many others...

If the Op's tractor is putting out enough smoke to warrant wearing a mask because of the smoke, I would be looking having the dealer look for the problem if I did not have the skill to fix it myself. Because, there is for sure a problem if it is smoking that much.

My B loader is covered in soot. Been a couple years not washing the loader. WAG this is 100 hrs run time. I do idle when hauling wood unloading etc. Burning average .6 gallons road taxed diesel per hr.

I had a BX for five years without any soot problem, didn't leave it idling for extended periods, and never tried to work it at minimum rpm. The local Kubota manager who bought my BX for his personal use mentioned the lack of soot, and that he's seen lots of sooty loaders due to not running the engine hot enough.

I agree with @B737 that these DPF models are very clean and I like the exhaust smell, although now I no longer have the MX open station I don't get to smell the exhaust much any more.

I’ve owned 2 BX 25ds and never had any issue with either regarding excessive smoke.

Same here on my BX25. Never noticed a problem with the exhaust.

I run premium diesel and I really don't have an issue with fumes. I'm just not sure if there's a difference with running red-dye or perhaps lower grade diesel fuels.

OP, don't be afraid to run the engine at higher rpms while using the machine.

The quality of the fuel definitely has an affect on engine performance. Poor fuel quality equals poor performance and a poorly performing engine will smoke excessively.
