I recently acquired a Kubota L185 and I'm working through some issues with it. I'm new to owning a tractor so please forgive my ignorance.

Can someone please tell me what this valve is for and if water is supposed to be coming out of it? If not, what does that indicate is possibly wrong with the engine?

What's wrong with it, nothing is wrong, it's just open, close it and water will quit coming out.

Seriously, its normal, It's a block drain.

Well damn, i feel really dumb. Thank you so much for the quick response!

When I got it, i was told it was over speeding and then wouldn't start. Previous owner said he thought the head gasket was blown due to the radiator being empty and water coming out of that valve. I'll fill it back up and try to start it to see what i'm working with.

@AAD

I see you are in Texas so at least in the same state as I am, but maybe still not close. I’m in the Austin area and have a L185F (2WD). I’m pretty familiar with that tractor so if you are in need of help I may be a good resource.

They are prone to overheating and cracking the heads. That is pretty much the end of the tractor unless you use an aftermarket head. But keep the radiator clean on the outside, make sure that the overheating whistle is on the left side of the radiator and still functioning properly and you should be good. I put an AC air filter in front of my radiator just to make it easy to get rid of the chaff from mowing. That was the only time mine overheated and it survived (thank goodness).

Is yours two or four wheel drive?
