A couple of weeks ago I spent an hour fixing 20 or so small potholes that were on the county road but only a few feet from the bottom of my driveway. The following week they finally got to grading and made a mess of the transition between my driveway and the county road. This afternoon I spent some time on the MX fixing their sloppy work and making some passes on the lower driveway.

I find that I get better results pulling the scraper up hill. I wanted to move some material from the near the bottom of the driveway where it seems to migrate/collect during the year. The weather is all over the place at the moment but some moisture will help to settle the dust.

I washed the tractor this morning, greased the loader bushings/pins and blew out the air filter, but after a few hours work it looks pretty filthy again.

I've seen some used low hour vibratory rollers for sale locally and I sort of wish I had one. I could do a really good job on the gravel driveway if I could run up and down with a roller. 😂

One day, I'll get one of these levelers.

That material looks super easy to work with. I can see why the material moves from rain/snow events because of it size. Just get you a new 13K lb SVL 97 to pack it in!

Yep! A grading scraper/land plane/land leveler works really well on an established driveway. The gravel that's down is called 3/4" crush, and with all the fines will pack quite well given enough weight. The last time I paid anyone to do work on the driveway was back in July of 2016. My neighbor (at the time) and I split the cost of having gravel put down along with having a small culvert added near the bottom which is indicated by the pile of small rocks at lower left in the picture. You can see the contractor finishing up with a small roller.

Last summer my neighbor of six years or so paid to have gravel bought in, but the driver did a really poor job of dumping the gravel. I spread it out as best I could and am still working to get the humps out. I'm hoping that the addition of gauge wheels to the rear Buhler/Farm King blade will enable me to do a better job of that.

I have a 17,000lb M-1078 and have considered using that as a roller. The tire treads remind me of a sheep's foot compactor/roller. I don't see a skid steer/track loader being in my future, but an excavator such as a KX057-5 could be in my future a couple of years from now. It would be slow to use as a roller, but it would be useful at my place in a number of ways. I'd be looking at a used model.

I've been wrestling rocks into the bucket over the past week or so as I cut out the topsoil out for the second driveway, but it really slows things down. I put in a couple more hours on the M this afternoon. Just have to keep chipping away at it.

This project has me wondering what the best piece of equipment is to make a 12ft wide, 150 yard long driveway in a field. Surely it's not a tractor. Draft control is working well pulling the EA box blade, and I'm making progress, but it's slow going. I'm enjoying the tractor time though, but rock wrestling not as much.

I called a local gravel company the other day for a delivered price on 1-1/2" pit run and 3/4" crush. Price here is $20.25/ton and $21.25/ton respectively.

And here's a follow up to the work I did on the lower driveway this past Monday. This is the bottom half of the lower driveway yesterday morning (Tuesday). We had a mix of tiny hail and some snow Monday afternoon/evening and a good frost every morning this week which helps to settle everything.

I'm not a grading expert but I'm able to do a decent job a few times throughout the year.

Started a multi day landscaping job today with both oranges. Its a back yard makeover after someone didn't finish the final grading/seeding. Its quite a mess. Owner sank just shy of 200K for a retaining wall, fence and new bluestone steps and patio around the pool. That job was supposed to have been completed with many triaxles of topsoil, final grading and seeded last fall. well, it didn't happen.

I have to fix grades that run into the pool, reset perimeter drains, add deco stone around fence and between fence and pool. I had to raise that play ground area and reinstall their rubber mulch as well. I'll get it finish graded and seeded. Oh, now he wants some trees removed as well.

Didn't take any pics today since the owner works for the county and really doesn't want people to know that he's getting work done. That's fine. I'll show a few pics when finished and leave his name out.

I was fortunate to have my wife and new pup on the job with me today as well. It was a good day.

I cut down a sketchy limb this evening by hand with manual 14ft pole saw. The limb fell but split and half of it was still attached to the tree. I fought with it for a little while and I'm like what am I doing? I have a tractor!

Grabbed some strong rope, wrapped it around the limb and hooked it to the drawbar and pulled it down with ease.

Now I have mess to clean up tomorrow before the rain comes.

That's all I did with the tractor today. Maybe 5 minutes worth of work, the rest was me 🤣

Had a similar situation 2 weekends ago.

Only I had the bright idea of having my youngin raise me up in the bucket so I could be face to face with the sketchiness.

The limb removal went accordingly, however the loader operator being slightly inexperienced and alittle hard on the controls, had me death gripping the tree like a cat TWICE lol.

What's the first thing you do after getting water ran to your new piece of property? Give the old girl thanks for doing so.

I immediately pissed on it to re-establish dominance and gave it a good greasing.
