Plowed some wintery slop after finding some snow covered ice on my driveway. My feet went out from under me so fast. Hip and shoulder are aching quite a bit today. no bruise yet., I'm sure its still brewing under the skin.

I hate winter.

I know the feeling. We don't bounce like we used to. Hopefully you didn't hit your head when you went down.

Finally got enough snow to clear it off. First time in 3 yrs. Did a bucket of fire wood as well and filled the feeders for the deer.

Yeah, that sucks. I haven't hit the ground this year but there's still plenty of winter left for that to happen. Lots of snow overnight and big flakes have been falling all morning. I'll get out there once it looks like it's letting up a bit.

Sure glad we put a tarp over the couple logs we brought up Friday. Last night we had a good icing / freezing rain just before dark, then an inch of rain through the night and a dusting of snow this morning. So we played in the snow….i one point I had 4 engines running at the same time! (ATV to plow, Chainsaw, tractor, and splitter).

Plowed 4-5 inches of heavy wet white stuff out of the driveway and 4 of my elderly neighbors.
When you can plow in a t-shirt, it's sure nice!

Hoping my tire tracks will allow the ice to be less slick when it freezes again in a few hours.

Did raise the snowblower shoes a little....of course broke one the bolts doing so. Sucks to reinstall them, but did have replacements on the shelf. Bad design....

High wind warning and low of 15 tonight. Hopefully we don't lose power.

Hopefully won't be a sheet of glass, but it's going to be a challenge.

I do have 2 buckets of sand in standby. Will use them tomorrow. Holding off for now.

Got up early (for me that's 0600) and cleared the one parking lot at church. It had 1-2" of slush on it. Easy enough to drive through but our octogenarians wouldn't like walking through it. Pic below is after a quick scraping.

The slush on the other lot was already melted and didn't need any attention.

We had the most snow in the last 24 hours that we've had so far this winter. The snow has changed, and although it's still a powder, it feels a lot wetter. It has warmed up to around 28F so not cold enough to prevent the base layer of snow from melting on the asphalt. I spent 40 minutes moving snow this afternoon before heading out to the store.

I should have made a note of the hours on the tractor when I filled up the tank last (February 4th I think). I've just about used up the 11 gallons or so over the last two weeks, but I have been out on the tractor a fair amount I suppose.

We had about 6" of snow that fell overnight and then it changed to rain in the early morning hours. I figured on waiting it out till the rain stopped, and by the time it stopped, the snow was about 2-3 inches of wet slush. I had the snowblower installed and didn't feel like taking it off, so after the tractor warmed up, I pushed the engine to 3000 RPM and started blowing the slush. I was quite surprised that it didn't jam up in the chute, but I was going slow to keep up the RPMs. Once everything was cleaned I switched to the plow to clean up the chunks that were left on the pavement. It is supposed to get down to freezing temperatures this evening, so all that water on the driveway will be ice in the morning. To add to that it is now snowing again so there will be ice under the snow. I have mixed thoughts about plowing that snow off the ice or just waiting for a thaw.

Worked on firewood yesterday and today. Used the L3901DT and grapple to bring logs out of the woods to the shed to be blocked up and split. No pictures this time. Will be working on firewood tomorrow (Monday).

It is really muddy around here. It is down to 16 right now, so things will be somewhat frozen tomorrow for a while.

Actually yesterday, but did the 400H service on my LX2610SUHSD. I learned (the hard way) that a 5 gallon bucket of UDT2 is not quite enough for the transmission and front axle. The axle wants 5 quarts and the transmission wants 20. My cipherin’ and gazintas said that won’t come out of a 5 gallon bucket. I was right. But with oversized wheels/tires on the front, I have to take the wheels off to drain the axle, so I did the transmission and waited till tomorrow for the axle. Now I’m gonna have to make two trips to get rid of the used oil unless I store the oil drained from the axle until I do the transmission again. But then, I won’t get all of the transmission oil back in the bucket. One would think that the dealer would know how much I needed and help me avoid that situation. “5 gallons oughta do it” is NOT the correct answer. I should have pulled out the app and instruction manual to verify that I had what I needed. Another thing that buzzed my bonnet was that engine oil comes in a 1 gallon (4 quarts) container. The LX2610 needs 4 liters, not 4 quarts. But last time I did the engine oil I was smart enough to get an extra quart so I had enough to top off the gallon I bought this time. I also learned (the hard way) that new o-rings do NOT. come with a new fuel filter. Glad I didn’t pitch the old filter before I noticed the absence of o-rings. The filter housing wanted to leak a little, but another tweak of the bowl stopped it. Hope I can get it back off again. All in all, though I didn’t have much to complain about other than learning (the hard way) that fuel will run out in copious amounts if the tank is more than 1/2 full when changing the filter. I bet I forget that before I have to change the filter again. The fuel was all I really spilled other than normal drips and drops of oil from my fingers. A relatively uneventful service session, really. Turned on my jams, and did one task at a time till done with everything except the axle oil. Got a guy coming to buy one of our Rhode Island Red roosters tomorrow afternoon, so will make a quick jaunt to the dealership to get another gallon of UDT2 to top up the axle and finish the 400H service. I should be done before he gets here.

The missus told the guy $10 for the bird, and he insisted on paying $20. Hard to negotiate with some people, I tell ya. He has 5 hens. I told him he needs 5 more hens because this is one very anxious and economy sized rooster. He’s as big as a half grown turkey, and thinks he wants to take me on when I go in the pen. I remind the bird that I have opposing thumbs and access to sharp instruments, and while I don’t want to turn him into dinner, I never promised not to. I wound up with 2 roosters from a box that was clearly marked “Pullets”. They apparently decided to use different pronouns. They’re 6 months old now and as crazy and horny as any teenage boy whose brain is scrambled by perfume and petroleum. Both are gorgeous birds, but getting a bit psychotic since we isolated them from the girls. They both start their little sideways jig when I go to feed them. They haven’t noticed that I’m 6 feet tall and they’re not. Good to be finally rid of one and hope to find a home for the other soon. Both are also chronologically challenged and crow at really stupid hours.

Got out around 6:15 this morning and cleared the drifting off the drive. I’m liking the new LED headlights. Now I just need to get some mounted up on the ROPS. Drive was mostly clear with the exception of down by the road. I had a drift about 2’ deep and 30’ long. The bucket made short work of it and the better half is off to watch our grandson for the day.

This might be better suited for the hunting thread, but I ran over a mouse with the snow blower that must have been crossing the driveway beneath 8" of snow! At first I thought I'd run over dog poop, but after backing up I could see that it was a little mouse or shrew.

We had a lot of snow overnight so time to fuel up the MX and start moving stuff off the driveways and parking areas. Here's a short 50 second video of the blower and snow blade in action. If nothing else you can listen to the sound of the MX running at 2,350 rpm blowing and 1,800 rpm pushing.
