Did a little firewood yesterday. Sometime you get lucky with the grapple and can get two good sized logs at once. I sure do like my Homestead Implements 55" grapple!

Yesterday morning I woke up to a dusting of 1-1.5" of snow on top of the handpicked previously cleared gravel drive. I really didn't want to bother with it, but I also knew that amount on top of the skim coat would freeze up and be a PITA with our hill.
So I had 45 mins before I needed to head out for something and jumped on the tractor, mounted the rear blade and flipped it around to "gentle" mode and spent 30mins clearing the new layer. Even that small dusting over 500' or so adds up.
It's nice to have the right tools for the job.

DO NOT "test drive" anything--you'll suddenly convince yourself "you need this piece of equipment" and spend a lot of time thinking about how to make it happen. In fact don't even sit in the seat...Went to the Kubota dealer today and picked up some more accessories. ....I wanted to stay at the Kubota place all day...they had so many toys. Multiple excavators and skid steers along with tractors, including cabbed MX models all in doors. A place to spend money very quickly

I have the Land Pride SSQA snow plow for mine and I still dig in sometimes. I'll just have more work to do in the spring haha.
They don't stay the same place with the power steering I have one on my BX2380 I like it.Went to the Kubota dealer today and picked up some more accessories. Got a steering knob, I'm not 100 percent sure on it yet but I'm gonna give it some time. It will definitely make it easier to use when I have winter gloves on and I'm sure it's gonna be better when I'm doing loader work but I feel like it's almost too easy.
Anyways I also picked up some bucket hooks to weld onto the bucket! They look incredibly rugged.

I'm not sure on the best placement as I never used one of these jobs before. But from brief research...most commonly is around 8-10 o'clock. So I'm trying it there for now. I heard some like it 6 o'clock but I like to put my hand there sometimes.
Yeah if you have hydrostatic steering. The L2501 using a traditional steering box like an old car so it always returns to the same position.
Speaking of the white stuff. I had a little bit to move. Hardly worth it except that it's supposed to warm up again and would of made things sloppy if I left it. And the battery was dead from sitting. Gave it a boost and then moved snow. Got it back on the charger to top it off.
Oh yeah.. definitely want to clean it up. When it melts and turns into slush and then freezes overnight, makes your driveway so rough.
Got a little fed up with the LX making the rear tires of the F-150 4x4 Supercab come off the ground enough for the trailer to move when loading the tractor. So, I fixed it. I added two pin-on drop-leg jacks to the back end. Now I can park the trailer anywhere and put the tractor on it without having the truck connected. New sneakers on the trailer last week too. I can either rotate the jacks up after loading or remove them completely when I can't secure the whole trailer to keep them from going walk-about. DId all the welding myself. One thing I've learned is that if you can't be a good welder, better be a good grinder. I'm and EXCELLENT grinder. Installation required welding a pipe to the trailer and the yoke on the jacks. I reckon I did a pretty good job on both. Still gotta get a couple more bearing maintainers for the front axle and figure out a way to test the brakes. Pretty sure the problem is my brake controller, though. It's quite annoying when I turn the bias up above 1.5, the brake lights illuminate both on the truck and the trailer (separate circuits) because of a firmware issue on the controller. I knew the price was too good to be true for an OE controller off Amazon. After much research, turns out, the one I got was for 2013 and prior models. I have a 2014 F150, so the BCM isn't agreeing with the brake controller, meaning the brake controller isn't applying the brakes. All it's doing is giving me stupid error messages. Easy enough to put an after-market controller on it with no interface to the BCM. I already have the harness extender (came with the truck).
Jacks on the back end of the trailer are the best things since shirt pockets. As it were, didn't cost much more to put 3500 pound rated jacks on both sides of the trailer than it would have to get steel and make ramp props that would likely make it a PITA to lift the ramps after the tractor was loaded. Now, I just put the jacks down to touch. drive the tractor on, run the jacks back up, and bingo, Bob's yer uncle and Fanny's yer aunt.
Next mod to the trailer is going to be adding a bunch of small d-rings for tying down tarps, etc. Already have 10000 lb D's on the corners to secure the tractor. The trailer will break before the tractor comes off. Even after the tire and jack investment, I'm still well under $1500 in this trailer. With the axles that far back, it tows like a dream with the LX on it. New decking may be in the cards next year as well. I bought this from a friend whose dad bought it new in 1976. Nearly 50 years old, and still in pretty darn good shape.

Then because it is 2024.....a nice inexplicable 1.2" of rain and 55-60 degrees tomorrow, which will then freeze up like a clam over night as temps drop to mid 20s.
I am starting to think I should just throw everything in the truck from my snow shoes to my fly rod and golf clubs and just see what season it is each day and choose my activity accordingly.......

Woke up to another 2" of heavy wet snow. With the snow being packed and hard as ice under it...the L2501 didn't want anything to do with it. Just no traction...might have to get some cheapo chains. I'm sure the R14 are better for this than the R4s I have. But after some effort I did manage to get it to plow...the trick was to let some of that wet snow roll under the plow so the tires had something to bite and I spent a good while really scraping the driveway down to almost gravel again now I have more traction. But man I didn't think it would be this difficult. My Polaris Ranger had no issues with this stuff but it had pretty gnarly kobbies on it.
It has never really snowed this much this early before. Last year we went almost to Jan without snow on the ground. The ground here is still soft so its like melting the snow and freezing it creating this thick layer of hard pack and ice. It's really slick. Usually when I go plow, the ground has frozen and it's much easier but its been a nightmare. It's not just me, others are experiencing the same thing.
It's not that the tractor CANT do it, I just have to rethink my strategy on plowing with it. I really feel like the large pads on the plow are kinda screwing me too. They are good in the fact that they kinda stop it from digging into the lawn but I also can't scrap down much either, even the tilting the blade forward just changes the whole geometry of it, instead of digging in, it kinda just scrapes on top of the snow. I might try to take the pads off and see how it goes. I'm going to apologize it my lawn before hand though
I guess on the bright side....I have more seat time. I'm getting really good at operating the loader controls using multiple functions at once. I can pretty much raise and lower the boom while keeping the plow or bucket level and I only have 6 hours of seat time!
