Finished up maintenance on the l3901. Drained the radiator and ran distilled water only for a bit and drained that. Then filled with coolant. Also drained the front axle and filled it with hydraulic fluid.

Had some downed big limb wood to block up. 046 hadn’t been run in a while.

Bought it used years ago for $350. Didn’t have much usage but was poorly maintained. Little basic maintenance and it perked right up.

It’s over 30 years old now, but it’s a great running saw.

As I’ve gotten older I tend to pick up the little MS211 more often….

No plan to do so, but if I were to replace the bigger saw tomorrow it would likely be a Stihl 362.

The MS400 is a factory 362 the factory hopped up, if you're looking for the weight of a 362 and near the power of a 461. (With a little tweaking it pretty much has the power of a 461).

that got sawed into 52, 2X4's seen stacked on the customer's MX5100 FEL bucket.

That is 3320 bf of lumber stacked in the background. It will all be hauled to the customer's pole barn for the final sticker stacking and drying.

Yup, that is a 1998 LT40 Wood-Mizer that I bought used 21 years ago. We are close friends and together we have sawn over 3 million bf of lumber. Over 60 thousand this year but @ 81 years old, I am continually trimming my sawing schedule and probably will not saw half of that this next year.

As a note, STIHL would sub-contract manufacture to someone else; STIHL zero-turn mowers are nice--and made by Ferris. STIHL provides excellent service on them I hear.

The MS400 is being replaced with a 400.1, and to me it looks like they're making a "more reasonable" (i.e. "watered-down") saw--but I haven't seen one so don't count on that as gospel. If you can get a 2020 or later MS400 they're (in my opinion) what to pick up due to the revised parts.

From the first video: Jens said the new MS400 is based on the previous MS400 but is a redesigned saw--basically the next evolution, not just an improvement. There's less rotating mass which is why it feels like a fuel-injected saw, the handles are redesigned for better balance and anti-vibration, heated handles will be available as an option.

Jens said the main benefit of the STIHL RAPID HEXA(tm) chain is consistent and easy sharpening for the average chainsaw user, and cutter longevity in dirty conditions (including roots) is improved.

Regarding MS400 cutting ability (I have an early one and wrench on a friend's 2023 which has several improvements), I find the anti-vibration a bit "springy" though got used to it and it is smooth. It does well for a mid-size saw in Central Wisconsin, which for the most part makes a great all-around saw as it's light enough for brush cutting with a small bar and powerful enough for pulling a 28" bar through most of what we have (or at least what I deal with). The fuel tank is a bit small so it's dry after 30 to 45 minutes of use, faster if constantly bucking "big" stuff (for Wisconsin).

Personally I usually use a smaller saw for limbing and larger for bucking over 14", but if someone were looking to own just one saw that "does it all" I think an MS400 would be a great choice as long as they had the upper body strength to run it comfortably. The auto-tune works great (there are no carb adjustment screws) in the hot/cold/100% humidity/dry conditions I've been in, so with that and HEXA chain it should be a versatile easy to maintain saw.

Used the MX to get the new to me Buhler rear blade off the trailer, got the pallet forks off and the front hydraulic snow blade back on with no plans to remove it until the spring.

Looks like some threw away a perfectly good gate (right above the tractor). That pile says a lot about the culture of our country and the reliability of appliances. Bet my refrigerator is older than most of the appliances in that pile. If it ain’t broke, I sure as heck ain’t buying a new one so I can watch it with my phone.

You need a bigger / better monitor.

Not as much as you based on your photo. Currently just a 1/4" dusting here at 3,200 ft elevation, but lot's of snow above 5,000 ft based on the mountains around the valley.

Been pretty busy, been working on one of the newly acquired pastures with neighbors house & farm that we bought over the summer. Yesterday I spent the day using the SVL with tree/brush puller. I had to resecure the hydraulic lines with stainless straps and replace o-rings (slow drip) on the grapple. Then later today I was using the grapple on the SVL and making brush piles.

Our neighbor likes to make several wreath decorations for their wide porch and every year asks me if I happen to have any boughs. Sometimes she makes a large one in the shape of a horses neck and head for the gable end. Pretty neat looking. I brought her a top and some limbs today.

Before the snow flies I wanted to get some additional RAP (recycled asphalt) to level off some sections of our ~700+ driveway. Got another 12 ton delivered yesterday and got about 2/3 spread over a couple hours with the B2601

Been a while since I needed the tractor for a project, not that I am complaining, just been busy with other things over the summer. Was good to get some seat time and burn some fuel, of course I didn't burn too much as I am always amazed at how efficient this thing is on fuel. It can get a LOT of work done with half a tank.

Needed to do this driveway work before I swap over the FEL for the blower.
