I finished up the snow blower repair this morning. There's one more part that was damaged by the previous owner but I need an oxyacetylene setup to heat and hammer the steel back into shape. I don't think it's critical to function so it can wait.

I got a piece of sheet metal cut, welded in and painted and this should be good to go for the season.

You can see the damage to the end of the support, but like I said, it's not critical to function, just aesthetically challenging.

I'd forgotten how mangled the triangular piece of sheet metal was but these Craigslist photos show a significant "bubble". I must have hammered it back to some form of decent shape before I started using it. The bottom photo was taken the day I got it home and the damage is obvious. I think the previous owner sucked up a big rock or similar.

Been a productive day. Blew leaves for a few hours, burned 3 tanks in the backpack. Used tractor bucket to push the piles off, worked great. Relocated the kiddos sand box to the back yard and moved their old swing set near the garden, they got a slight upgrade!

Since Fall has officially fallen, switched out the Pine Needle Rake and 3pt hitch for the BH77 backhoe (still have stumps to pull/dig). Then to ensure that the snow doesn't come, removed the bucket and loader arms and installed the front mount LX2963 snowblower/subframe/PTO driveshaft.

Final update on the Land Pride SB1574 upgrades and repairs completed today. I used a BFH to get the bent support somewhat back in shape. A little touch up with an abrasive disk and some ACE Hardware gloss black paint and it looks a whole lot better.

I don't suck up rocks when blowing snow so this blower should last for years to come. I might take it all apart at some point, sand blast it and paint it. The previous owners used it on roads where salt was put down, and in combination with being left out in the weather it's taken a toll on the finish. It's not terrible but it could do with some attention.

Not what I did but what I saw the other day at the local landfill. Notice the bolt on grapple. I was dropping household rubbish off at the green bins and spotted something orange helping out at the scrap metal pile.

Looks like some threw away a perfectly good gate (right above the tractor). That pile says a lot about the culture of our country and the reliability of appliances. Bet my refrigerator is older than most of the appliances in that pile. If it ain’t broke, I sure as heck ain’t buying a new one so I can watch it with my phone.

Used the pallet forks and a skid to move the deck furniture to the barn for winter. The battery was dead, so I had to jump it. I moved the tractor to the garage and hooked it to the battery charger/ maintainer when I was done. It’s quite the game of Tetris to fit all of the deck and patio furniture in the barn every year.

I have a HaulMaster QH, and 5 different implements for the 3-point system that all claim to be QH ready. News flash: no two of them are actually anything alike, meaning on 2 in 5 (the box blade and the chipper with some finagling on swap) actually fit the QH when I got it, That also required moving the top hook all the way to the bottom to hook the bolt and bushing on the BB with the top hole unused and the chipper was the most compatible with it. I already modified my cheap tow hitch (widened it to Cat II width) but it was still slightly aggravating to put on the QH because of the top hook placement. The various problems I ran into was different angles of the front frame on the different implements. Everything except the subsoiler is labeled QH compatible, but I guess that depends on whose QH you have.

So, yesterday, I did some measuring and cipherin’ and some gazintas and figured out the QH would work brilliantly on the chipper if I moved the hook up 3 inches (extreme top position and coincidentally the same distance between the two top link holes on the chipper). A little studying and I figured I could move the bolt and bushing on the BB to the top hole as well. That change made it much friendlier to connect with the QH. Next up was the LSR (landscaping rake). Hmmm, the diagonal braces on it are welded, but moving the bolt and bushing to the top hole would be close, albeit the front frame leans more forward and can’t move. The tips of the front frame hit the bolts of the top hook but otherwise it looked like it would work. Clipped the corners off, and BINGO, it’s super easy to connect now. I still have to get off the tractor to stow the storage stand, but I usually do anyway for a quick inspection before I use the implement.
Finally, I modded the tow hitch again to use the top hole and now 4/5 of my 3-point gear is actually compatible with my QH, and MUCH easier to connect. Took a few photos to show the changes.

The subsoiler is gonna take a bit more welding and tweaking because it only has the lower top link holes and the top of the frame is welded.

Fall has left and no more melting forecasts in the long range forecast. Thankfully winter wonderland is quickly approaching. Had a Pileated woodpecker (16-19 inches tall) scare off all the chickadees and nuthatches at the suet cage this morning. Not great pictures using the cell phone through the kitchen window.

We finished that sawmilling job today:

The last log, a 24" X 8'.......

that got sawed into 52, 2X4's seen stacked on the customer's MX5100 FEL bucket.

That is 3320 bf of lumber stacked in the background. It will all be hauled to the customer's pole barn for the final sticker stacking and drying.

I do not intend to saw any jobs before Thanksgiving and only 3 more jobs this year. I need to spend some time at the Cabin and hunt a bit. Of course my hunting these days is mostly sitting, watching, and enjoying.

Had some downed big limb wood to block up. 046 hadn’t been run in a while.

Bought it used years ago for $350. Didn’t have much usage but was poorly maintained. Little basic maintenance and it perked right up.

It’s over 30 years old now, but it’s a great running saw.

As I’ve gotten older I tend to pick up the little MS211 more often….

No plan to do so, but if I were to replace the bigger saw tomorrow it would likely be a Stihl 362.

I have both an MS362 and an MS261. 20" & 24" bars for the 362 and an 18" bar on the 261. My go-to is the MS261. I understand "older" as I am now 81.

I couldn't leave well enough alone so one final tweak this afternoon to the snow blower. Ever since buying this thing a few years ago I've been a little annoyed by the amount of lateral play that the chute deflector cylinder has. I'm talking about an inch of left to right movement!

A simple fix was to stop by the hardware store and buy twelve 1" washers. About $20 later the cylinder has just a bit of play left to right, so not an expensive tweak to improve function and pride of ownership.
