I was given permission to brew a batch of home brew today, but something I’ve been watching for several years interceded.

This 70+ foot tall pine had a huge cat face right at the ground when I bought this place in 2004. After wondering when it was coming down for nearly 20 years, I got my answer last night. It broke a large limb in a big red oak, so first order of business was to pull down the widow maker before I even thought about working on the pine. Threw a line up in the oak limb and pulled it down with a rope and clevis using the Bolt-on D-rings I installed in the bottom of my bucket right after I got the tractor in 2021. I cut 5 12+ foot logs out of the pine and about 1/4 cord of firewood from the oak, then chipped the pine top and small oak limbs with the WC-68. The LX2610 barely noticed 5” diameter green pine in the chipper. Got it all cleaned up in a day, knowing it would have taken me at least 3 days if I didn’t have the LX.
Gonna buy a little Alaska Saw Mill and cut the logs up to build “Cluckingham Palace next spring.

Your gonna have a nice obstacles coarse for that mower.
Yeah, the FDR2584 isn't going through there anymore. I have a few other areas that are a tight fit so I'm planning on picking up a small ride on mower with a 42-48" deck in the spring.

Our nights have cooler and no rain so the grass has slowed down considerably in the past couple weeks. I did all of it today and if I'm lucky that will be the last time this season.

I started cleaning up the front area with my labor and the Kubota. There’s a section where the wisteria and kudu were taking over some trees and I wanted to eliminate them. After a damn hard day, I had accomplished very little and I had broken (yeah, broken) a walnut tree by pulling two vines at once. Its diameter was only about 8 inches and it was full of nuts.

When I came inside, I got a couple of quotes from the local mulchers and went with a local fire department captain who originally cleared our land several years ago. Just because you own a tractor doesn’t mean you should. ;)

BTW, I did salvage the walnuts and will crack them open once they dry out. Already removed the hulls and washed them. Now I’ll have access to several other walnuts and a couple of pecan trees. That’s a redneck’s dream come true.

We also now have access to a tree that fells some years ago. Only the main truck remains. It’s kind of large - you should have seen the tree mulcher dude’s eyes when he say it for the first time. He thinks it’s the largest one he’s ever seen in this part of AL. MrsK7 added for scale. She’s barely 5’2”.

Tried the last mowing for the season. On the positive side I got a lot mowed, pressure washed the finishing mower and tractor. Put deck away for the year. It will need some paint in the spring. 20 years on a King cutter ain't too bad.
On the negative. Answered the question of how wet is too wet to mow the hill. The answer is TODAY !
On the downhill the tail tried to wag the dog and the rear AG tires tried to dance the TIME WARP. Change of plan , but on the upside ride I could feel the tires all starting to dig and spin. DAMN, there is a few trenches I will need to tend to in the spring.

End of the day. Power wash after using a come a long to raise the deck, a glass of my favorite beverage and a cigar.
Lived to enjoy another day.

The little B is now set for fall / winter tree falls and plow duty.

Just the day before, I almost cut this big pallet up and threw it in the shop boiler's wood pile, luckily I didn't. I had a 120 pound or so small solar panel assembly to lift on top of a 10' high pole, and it turned out the FEL and pallet combo got me just high enough, barely. I mean, another couple inches lower and I would not have been able.

The last few years, as my own spruce row has grown, I have taken the lower limbs off up to head height, trimmed them off at the trunk. The trees are flourishing so I guess it doesn't hurt them, and sure makes it easier to mow around them.

The only thing I did today with my B was feel emasculated 😢. (The log is off to a local mill) 🥃
Back from the mill…looks like the B has some work to do this weekend. The grain on the slabs is beautiful. The cookies checked a bit but have nice grain.

Picked up a set of Pats quick hitches for a hundred dollars couldn’t pass it up and got them mounted and hooked up the winch. Thankfully the pto shaft was long enough to connect and it maxed out the top link but everything looks good. I don’t switch 3ph implements often but this will hopefully simplify things when I do switch them.

Double Orange day! finished up the job we started last week. It was another 12 hour day wrestling trench boxes, cast iron risers and 6 foot deep water lines. We wound up renting an 18" bucket for the KX080. I was able to fit it inside the trench boxes and kept digging to make the sewer line connection. Depth was around 9.5-10 feet.

I didn't get many pics of this one as I was just too busy/tired. But I did snag one of the two Oranges together...one big, one very small.

My second annual "move the 1100 watt solar array up from the spring site where it pumped water all summer, up the mountain 1/4 mile to the power shed and tie it into the grid tied power system until it warms up again" event.

Not as scary as it looks, but next time I'll pull the cow catcher on the tractor front off, no need to work around it. Took about an hour, having it sit down there until April doing nothing would drive me crazy, now it's back at work.

Found this: root intrusion down 8 feet where the 4" pvc changed to 6" sdr. Roots broke the reducer/hub.

Good question.

It would appear to me that both of your answers are correct. I've noticed that there seems to be a common cause in each "neighborhood" that we work in. One development may have several jobs where we find glued joints w/o primer. Other's where we find house traps have broken from settling either from lack of stone bedding or something as simple as a clogged gutter dumping water next to the foundation or a combination of all of these.

Then there's the typical joint separation and/or decay when older materials (terra cotta, cast iron) fails. These are to be expected simply due to age.

One additional cause is from the homeowner/renter...many that get plugged with grease. Failure caused be mechanical cleaning of the lines.
