Nice! I remember cinder block days. How many taps ya have in? Ever consider buying an evaporator? I love mine 2x3 from WB Mason in Maine. I haven’t built a sugar shack yet so I have it bolted on a pallet and move it out from storage to the driveway for boiling with the tractor and forks.

Having a tractor sure makes sugaring easier! From hauling sap to wood to moving the arch.
Wow, great job there…looks like you have the place and process!

We have 20 taps and a tiny seedling (17x22ish) evaporator pan. We’ve just been doing for 3 seasons to learn on a micro scale…doing it with all black walnut trees and a single maple. We plan to expand when we move to our place up North (eventually I’ll build a sugar shack)…we are loaded with sugar maples at the other place but for now we have black walnuts at the house. Funny you mention the evaporator…I have one on order…hopefully it shows up soon (2’x3’) and I plan to keep on a pallet as well to bring in/out of the barn.

That’s a great set up you got there from the pics. ☕

Awesome! I don’t actually do that much, only about a dozen taps. 2x3 three channel flat bottom pan with a fan in the arch does 10 gallons per hour without having to go crazy pushing it. Hope you post (and I see) your setup at the new place!

(Oh, and thanks!)

Got in a load of wood.

The skidding winch makes great ballast. Rear is usually a little light with the 550lb box blade, but firmly planted with the winch.

Started in on cleaning up some semi-standing tangled up dead pines and a storm broken maple with the winch. That thing is even better than I could have hoped. Neglected to get photos. Figured I would later in the job as I got past the first one of two. After the first one, got interrupted by some guys working on vacuuming debris out of the sewer main that runs down our main creek. Heard someone down there and met them right before getting in the firewood. Couple hours later they stopped at our son’s house to ask if there was some way shorter than going three miles back up the right of way and if they could cross our land to extricate their little tracked vacuum machine (about 1800lb). Took one of them in the Mule back to their machine to show them the route out (more like .2 miles).

They were a little concerned about getting stuck in the very muddy smaller creek crossing but decided to give it a shot after they saw the L with the winch and I offered to pull them out if they got stuck. All that pretty much gobbed up what I was doing but making them walk behind that little whatever it was for three miles seemed almost cruel. Been there myself back in the day. They didn’t get stuck but did run off a track.

We took down one more while they were re-installing the track.

Beatiful day here, upper 60's and full sun.

Completed the 800 hour service today on the MX. As with most equipment I load it up on my flat bed. I dont have to crawl up underneath for drain plugs and all the filters are waist to chest high. The only time I need to be on the trailer is to fill up oils. Just took a few hours to complete.

I like that idea for the gear lube. I have the same sprayer container on a shelf used once several years ago. What are you using for a valve on it?

Yes sir, thanks.

I just release pressure, it's gear oil, only a few drops will splatter out. Important not too over pressurize the tank cause gear oil is thick and takes some time squeezing it throgh the tubing.

Fast Forward to 3:50, I explain and use the same sprayer tank.

Thanks for the link to your video, you explained it well so I have another small useful project. Should really be a help on things like differentials on the truck and car. Never easy on those.
Thanks again,
Bill

Did anyone else see the goat?
No but I went back and did! Always aware of your surroundings is a good thing!

A little something I picked up in 40 years as a field service engineer in industrial services. If you can think of a factory, chances are, I've been in one. One learns to keep his head on a swivel to watch out for things that can hurt/maim/kill in environments where hearing is moot. As well as environments where there's nothing to hear, but plenty to accelerate one's departure from this world. Attention to detail and knowing what's around you is very important in some of the dangerous places I've been.

The goat was well hidden, though, and blended in very well.

I too did in my work in the trades and volunteer fire department service. But that goat was wearing camo!

I was outside boiling sap all day…while I had some down time I added a temporary lightbar…what a difference. (Yes I am aware the curb feelers are still on🤪). Still need to fine tune the angle but it sure brightens things up a bit. (Headlights are on in both night pics)🥃
Looks good. I want to do the same and wonder how many watts your light bar is or what mfg/model. Thanks.

Thanks.

The light is an ‘RBI’ that Tractor Mike markets / sells. Rated at 72 Watts and 5280 Lumens. It is bright. It’s so bright Clark Griswald would be proud🤪. I am going to need to add reverse facing lights (my eyes don’t adjust quick enough from lights on looking forward to looking over shoulder to where it’s dark behind machine when I need to back up.).

A bit of snow blowing this morning moving a few inches off the driveways and parking areas. I got the new seat cover on the Grammer seat in the MX so now have the same brand/color/material covers in both tractors and really couldn't be happier with the product.
