Ran it today to do some yard work. Surprisingly it was blowing a fair amount of black smoke. Have t ran it in a few weeks. Fuel filter looks good, air filter a bit dirty. No intake restriction light. Seemed to clear up when it warmed up. Will try again tomorrow morning with it cold see if it re appears.

Used the box blade to clean the icy slush off a few driveways yesterday. We got 3” then it turned to yuck and a lot of people thought it would melt before it froze again but surprise! We’ve had a few of those already with at least 2 more in the pipeline. Some people never learn I guess. I’m still waiting to put the snowblower on, been using the box blade since the first snow in early November.

After nervously watching it for a few years, I finally got the gumption to cut the 90 ft tall pine, maybe 20" DBH, behind my barn that was dying and shedding its bark.
Thankfully it was leaning slightly away from the barn but I bore cut it and wedged it to make sure of the fall.
Fall it did, but my aim was not perfect and it hung up in the arms of a soft
maple.
So, I got to test the pulling power of the M first by yanking it off the stump with a little bit of the hinge still intact and then dragging the butt through 20 feet of mud till it finally hit the ground; it made an 18" deep trough but the tractor did not even slow down.
I love this machine!!

Nice job! 90 feet and 20" DBH is a lot of tree. Cut many Norway Spruce of similar height for pulp. Somedays felt like I couldn't drop my hat and have it hit the ground!
Good to get it when you did; dropping dead or hollow ones can get dicey...
Sometimes your aim is fine, but you never know where/when a dead one is going. If you bored it, guessing it's not the first time you've felled one.... good for a leaner to avoid barberchair.

Been that way since I was 6 years old greasing our farm equipment....
I helped my son replace a headlight on his car after his semester.... one hand looked like it went through a sausage grinder...too tight in there, and was just once scrape... My son ended up with bloody hands too, but it was Dad's blood that got all over...
My father was always the same way...guess it's proof that genetics works!

We live in the woods, are surrounded by tall pines and while my wife has lobbied against cutting them, I think she is finally seeing the light and will be more amenable to cutting them.
I took a Game of Logging course about 20 years ago to learn directional falling and I believe it is the best safety and skill building tool that a wannabe logger can have.

I've heard of it, with great reviews.
'Cat and bearbait have been poking fun at me about me mashing my thumb with a 4# mallet doing a patio last summer. I posted pictures here, so I deserve it and it's fun!
I started running a chainsaw ~12 years old. Learned from Dad and Grandad, and by doing 100's of cords of pulp and firewood/year in later years.
I got pretty good with a chainsaw...probably call myself a real good novice.
Couple close calls and nothing more....nothing like putting a right-handed hammer in my left-handed hand....
One incident was a widow-maker right on top of the noggin...my father said good thing it hit you on the head...Otherwise you might have gotten hurt!!

Changed the engine oil, hydraulic oil, and filters. Filled back up with synthetics. Shell T6 5w40 and Kubota SUDT2. The loader and backhoe outriggers work great to lift the tractor high enough to get a 5 gal bucket underneath.

I had just finished bore cutting and wedging a big pine that was growing within 4 feet of its twin 80 footer
I cut the holding tab and stepped back against the neighbor tree it started to fall, when WHAM. my helmet [thank goodness for the helmet], my helmet is ripped off my head along with my glasses as the limb, that had grown into the neighbor tree, broke off and fell 60 feet onto my head.
I escaped with twisted glasses and a pretty good abrasion on my face/head.
The helmet face mask was also mangled but the lid did its job.
Lesson learned...look up before you cut

I saw mine ahead, up in a hard maple with 4 or 5 tops jammed at the base I wanted for firewood.
Got taken with the tension below, and it sprang it loose from above.
Hit me clean on top of my head...took care not to drop the saw until it was off. Guessing it was 5’ x 3” through hard maple.
Worst part was I was wearing a ball cap....my hard hat with face screen and earmuffs was hanging from the side mirror of the truck 100’ away in the woods....
Somebody got lucky that day....

My problem was caused from being lazy. I headed out my road one morning with everything I needed except for my cutting chaps and decided I'd be fine without them. Well after several hours of work it happened, my arms were getting tired and without thinking I lowered the saw and got too close to my leg when the chain grabbed my blue jeans and sucked it into my leg just below the knee. Real bad feeling that chain hitting bone. With that I packed up and headed back home to clean up the damage and with the help of my wife I decided to just crazy glue the incision back together instead of enduring the long wait at the ER. Seemed to work quite well until I tried to take my fingers away and that is when I realized I had gotten some glue on my finger and thumb so there I was with my pants around my ankles and my finger and thumb stuck to my leg, dilemma! Well between my wife and myself and a sharp knife we managed to free my hand from my leg. I swear if someone had of showed up right then they would have thought we were both drunk we were laughing so hard.

Had to clear densely wooded hill side behind my home. Remove trees and stumps. Add and level the ground and build some retaining walls.
I've been renting BX's and Mini Ex's for this, and finally broke down and just went and bought my own BX23S to have for my projects like this. Should have bought one years ago!!
