I have a dilemma. A couple years ago my neighbor wanted me to clear a little bit of land behind her house to make it more mow-able and less vegetation around her shed. I did a lot of it by hand but was unable to finish it because it really required a tractor due to discovering the previous owners dump pile that was full of metal debris.
I cleaned a lot of it up by hand with a large magnet on wheels, I filled up two 5 gallons bucket worth of metal.
Now that I have the tractor, I'd love to finish this job because it's a huge hump of dirt and rocks where they left the spoils from the shed they put in and was covered was overgrowth. I am able to mow part of it now but I have hit the blades a few times on big rocks that I couldn't see.
Is it worth the risk to clean it up because I don't want to damage the tires or puncture them. I know the R4s are tough with thick sidewalls and are what 6 ply? But even rusted out metal is still pretty hard.
What would be the safest thing to do? Take one scoop at a time and run the magnet over the area and collect any metal debris as I go?
Have you ever dealt with cleaning up a "dump site " with your tractor before? If you do, please share your experiences.
Thanks
