So I just bought this TG1860 a couple weeks ago. I’ve used it a few times to mow. Started right up no problems. Today I went to mow and it wouldn’t start. Couldn’t hear the starter clicking or anything. I could hear like a relay or something turning on but that was it. Was doing some google searching and someone said they had the same issue and they turned the fan and then it would start. So I tried the same thing. Turned the fan about a quarter turn. Hopped back on and it started right up. What could be the issue with that?

I have one that did the same thing. I haven’t tried spinning fan yet but would love to see replies.
First off be sure all connections are good. Safety switches, battery cables, etc. If all that checks out and still only clicks add a helper relay. Had to do that on my G2160. Best thing ever for it

They come with wire harness, plug, and bracket. I used one for my starter relay installation, another for my tow behind sprayer harness I added, and another for my lighting system I added/upgraded.

I wish it was that easy. Pretty rare. I went so far as to buy a brand new starter. No help.

hmm, how old is this machine ? According to Tractordata it was last made in 2003, so 2 decades ! If true , when were the battery cables replaced ? Really need a test light/meter on the starter solenoid control wire and confirm/dent it IS getting +12 when you turn the ign key to 'start'. If yes, then either an internal starter problem,bad battery cables or bad battery. Since it's a new starter, it shouldn't be bad...but you did bench test before installing ?? How old is the battery and did you remove,sit on bench and fully recharge it ? I suspect bad cables/connections(nuts and bolts). if the cables are NOT OEM style molded one, replace them.

assuming this IS the 18HP diesel, the fan is probably on the water pump,run by the fan belt,so ZERO 'cure' for a 'no start' problem....sigh...gotta love the internet.....

I haven’t replaced anything on this tractor yet as I just acquired it. And I thought the fan thing was crazy but that was the only thing that actually got the thing to start. Idk why or what could be the correlation but it worked.

New starter, new cables, "helper" relay, tons of cleaning/polishing and my G2160 still wasnt right. This was cheap, quick, easy, and 100% effective.

Lol I’m just saying it worked. I don’t know what to tell you. It is crazy. I agree. The blades were not engaged.

You tried it once and the machine started. Try it 100 times and if the machine starts 95 out of 100 times I MIGHT say it works.

Quick google search online and I found 2 other people that said they had the same issue and turning the fan then starting worked. Just so you don’t think I’m crazy. 
obviously this isn’t a solution though. Will def be trying the helper relay.

The reason turning the engine over using the fan works is that the solenoid does not have enough power to compress the spring in the Bendix drive and twist it to line up the teeth into the slots of the flywheel. The bendix teeth are contacting the flywheel teeth.
When you turn the fan, you are just repositioning the flywheel.
The simplest and most effective solution is to add the started relay which gives the solenoid full power to compress and twist the Bendix as needed to get the teeth to engage.
We keep a box of about 20 of the relays with the relay base that has about 10 inches of wire already on it. Makes installation very simple and quick.
Most of the new equipment has a start relay already in the system.

Sounds to me like Coleman's have what you need! They keep them by the box full. Pay the postage and get what works!
