I acquired my dad's B6000 with FEL recently. I need to haul it 600 miles from Oregon to California. From what I've researched, I think I'm looking at a tractor/FEL weight of 1500 lbs. Anyone out there with some trailer recommendations for me?
Thanks!

12' single axle will be fine - trailers are crazy expensive due to everything going up in price.

A double axle with brakes would be excellent but that price jump WILL hurt the pocketbook.

I think your in the ball park on weight. As hokie says, a single axle should be fine as long as your not towing it with a prius. The longer the trailer and tow vehicle, the more stable it will be and also allow more room to get your tongue weight correct.

what are you planning to tow it with and do you have any towing experience?

Don't want you to end up like this:

Might rent a trailer to move it, or get a bid on U-Ship. With fuel prices you could pay someone going your way cheaper then you going and coming back, and not have the wear, tear and time. If you do rent pick up the trailer before you get to Calif. So many folks leaving the state rental rates are crazy!

Good day and congrats on the tractor. By weight single axle is fine. However if plan to add implements and ever want mobility, buy enough enough. Finally, again for the weight single axle is fine….I have lost a tire on super slab in heavy traffic at speed…I was very lucky to have a tandom axle. For short distances (in or near town…not so much an issue I guess). For over the road type travel From my experience an extra axle is helpful to get you off the road to a safe place. Buy the best tires you can get (it’s really a shame when you buy a new trailer and they come with cheap tires) and you if you plan to haul much make sure you get enough the first time. Good luck.

I'd be totally surprised if your father is the rarest type of tractor owner and didn't have at least one implement, will you be needing to haul any additional equipment? If you elect to purchase, then consider what other trailer features/ uses you may need in the future once you get it home. With prices going up I'd rather purchase something that will do everything I need and would have a better resale value when not wanted anymore. Count your blessings you're getting a free tractor with a FEL, most members started with nothing.

I like D2Cat's ideas... rent a one-way U-haul, or have it shipped. Both have to be a lot less than buying a trailer . Is that 600 miles one way or round trip ? At 60 mph, that's 10 hrs more or less.....
Once you have then THEN see what trailer you really need.

I've got a 2004 Chevy Colorado (5 cyl) with factory tow package. It's sufficient for this trip. I appreciate you bringing up the length of the trailer as a factor, from experience that truly does make a huge difference.

That's a good argument for a tandem axel setup. I'm on the same page with high quality tires as well. Thanks!

agreed. i don't plan on any long hauls, short of this first trip, so definitely need to keep price in check.

600 miles one way... it's gonna be a long day. :)
I just did that this past Monday pulling an 11,000 lb trailer from Sheridan, WY to Kalispell, MT. It took me 9-1/2 hours with one stop for fuel, and to let the dogs out to pee. The toughest section was the 6% grade out of Missoula that's something like 4 miles long. I was only able to maintain 55mph with my foot to the floor and in 3rd gear.

You're not kidding. I bought a 16ft PJ tandem axle dump trailer three years ago for $10k and that included 2ft extension side panels. That trailer is $14k at the same dealer now and that doesn't include extension panels.

Just curious, it's there a reason you backed the tractor onto the trailer?
I'm hauling a similar load shortly.

Two reasons. Firstly, if a stone flies up and brakes the glass, it's a lot cheaper and easier to replace the rear window than the front. Secondly, with the weight distribution of the tractor the tongue weight is easier to set up and adjust vs. driving on forwards.

I went past Belgrade on my way home.

Oh, and HST tractors are a lot easier to back onto a trailer compared to geared tractors. At least that's my experience.
