Ok somebody should have warned me! Plenty of discussions on implementitis, and not sure what to call the disease where you just HAVE to have a bigger barn or shed for the tractor and the implements. Even plenty of threads on which tools should be in the little toolbox on the Kubota.

However I was blindsided when I realized I'd walked into Sears to buy vacuum cleaner bags and came out with a two foot breaker bar, some large metric sockets, a med sized ratchety thing...and the sales guy was saying do you want a cart for that or some help getting it to the car?:eek: oh and not to forget the teeny tiny metrics because I was missing the exact sizes I needed to get that zerk off and a different one on.

So what else am I likely to not be able to live without? I need to budget for this! :D

I am so laughing so hard, picturing you going on that shopping trip! :D

You can never have enough tools! ;)

Sorry to say this, but as soon as you have a list of must have tools, it will change and hundred more will pop up on the must have list!

Set the buget really, really high for tools :p:D Actually you sound like your doing really good :) A mid sized pair of needle nose pliers, one straight, one with a 22° bend, they come in really handy for cotter pins and springs. Kobalt (lowes) has a really good plier set that I purchased for the house. Had both sets of needle nose pliers, dikes, linesman pliers, a couple adjustable wrenches, and channel lock pliers. Kit has pretty much what you need for the smaller stuff. 1/4" and 3/8 drive sets in metric. Metric wrench set 8mm to 22mm should cover most of your tractor. If your feeling froggy, there's always a 1/2" drive impact with impact sockets up to 1 1/4" or metric equivalent for those rusted up implement bolts. With a wrench set to complement the sockets :D Course you would need at least a five gallon air compressor to run the impact  Even then, every time you walk through the tool section your gonna see something else you just gotta have. :p It's just like our implements :D

I'm up to $35k in tools, and the snap on man just handed me a credit app (dangerous) since he's going to a trade show in a couple weeks. With a wish list of stuff I'm wanting for one heck of a deal. Hmmmm........ I'm thinking a plasma cutter, maybe a 220 mig welder.......... Now just to hide it from my wife

Sheepfarmer,,, This just gets worse, from now on every time you walk past a store that has tools of any kind you will find your self being drawn in by some invisible hand. Thumbing through the Sears catalog you will go to the tools. Yes this is what happens to us all some more so than others but you have been bitten. Next thing you will be wanting to take welding classes so you can fix and build your own stuff to your likeing,, Yes it is a disease, welcome to the fold :D

Oh, you poor innocent thing. You have NO idea...

The pictures are my "big shop". Then there's my woodworking shop next to it. And my modeling space in the basement.

And the "new" shed. I'm tired of walking all the way back up to the big shop when I need a tool down at the barn, so I'm slowly stocking the tool wall in the new shed.

I got my first "all for my very own" tools for Christmas when I was maybe 14. I'll be 65 in October and I'm still utterly incapable of walking by a tool display without stopping to check and see if there's anything I "need".

Gonna be a helluva yard sale when I assume room temperature...

OMG PHPaul and Daren, that is scary! Maybe the best I could hope for is that somebody like that moves into the neighborhood so that I can borrow tools in exchange for lambchops or wool mittens :D

Or maybe I could take up going to garage sales....

I have to keep buying new tools because I have taught my wife to at least " attempt" to fix something before calling me. This has led to her comeing to the shop and saying " I need a tool to take this thingamajimmy off the whatchamacallit". I never get the tool back and have to buy another one. At least my tools are getting newer.

I got a whole barnfull, X3. Still buying them at auction, when cheap enough. Got a complete squeeze wrench set(as seen on TV) and a set of 10 metric wrenches, still in a new clean plastic pouch, for $0.50, last weekend. Generally stuff like that sits in my pickemup, till I have need for it in one of the barns, then it sits there, till I forget it...:D:D

The name says it all. Im up to three tool chests in two buildings. 24x32 insulated walk in toolbox.others call it a garage. Because my day job was an hour away i needed to build a second set of tools. Now its big stuff, lathe, hoist and milling machine on wish list. A forge and a small foundry for casting metal is way out there but im still dreaming.
Now at home and working in my walk in tool box, the snap on guy found me too.
Its a 100 dollar bill every time i see him. But he brings donuts. ;)

Now I'm jealous. Mines got a quarter operated gumball machine. If you get a crazy ball instead of a gum ball you win a hat  I did win me a hat though. Didn't realize he had crazy balls in there till I popped it in my mouth and got a surprise :rolleyes:

That's actually not a bad way to pick up some decent tools. I've glommed onto some pretty decent stuff, including Snap On, that way.

My collection is what you might call "eclectic". Grab any two tools at random and the chances of them being the same brand varies from slim to none...

Sheepfarmer, you mention, "...best I could hope for is that somebody like that moves into the neighborhood so that I can borrow tools..."

I have a BIL who's philosophy is, "You buy it, I'll borrow it!"

One thing I do not loan out is any 2 cycle equipment. Too easy to put the wrong fuel in and end up with an apology and parts.

Yep, years ago when I first moved here we had a neighbor who was the soul of generosity. Loaned his stuff freely. Usually offered it if he saw you needed something. Another neighbor borrowed a real nice Troy bilt tiller from him and ran it out of oil and killed the engine. Found out years later he couldn't read so anything written on a piece of equipment like "oil" was useless. Never figured out how he made a living, a barber, but he did.

I was raised if you can't afford to replace it if you break it, don't borrow it. My dad kind of carried the whole thing to an extreme, quoting Shakespeare, neither a borrower nor a lender be. Boy, was that a different generation!

Friend of mine loaned his brank-spankin-new Yamaha 250 trail bike to a buddy to teach his boys how to ride. The guy brought it back the next day totally trashed.

The boys had dropped it about three dozen times on both sides. Nearly every piece of plastic was scratched or torn. The engine case and side covers had been grounded a couple times. The handlebar grips were toast.

When the owner stared in disbelief at the damage, the borrower friend said,

"Aww.. THAT'S what dirt bikes are FOR!" and smiled.

It cost nearly $400 to buy the replacement plastic. The borrower is not stupid. In fact, he is a brilliant engineer. Some people just have no concept of taking care of their stuff or yours.
