I need to install tire chains on rear tires but my existing chains will hit on the inside of the tractor.

Can i swap my rear R4 tires side to side ?
This will allow me extra clearance on the inside for the chains

Im thinking you might just want to go with a set of spacers. They are not very costly and should give you the room you need and add to the stability of your machine. And no swapping wheels side to side will do nothing but give you heart aches

By changing the wheels side to side the tire geometry is backwards. Meaning you will most likely not be able to control the machine as you would like, handling as well as traction will be impaired to a degree. Hence the spacers a quick easy fix that will add more than you might think. And if you are going to take the wheels off anyway use them and make it right ;)
Here are some spacers

I swapped my tires 4 years ago on my L3540. I have not noticed any issue. I have R4 tires. I work in the mud some. I put around 1,000 hours on it since the swap. The tires have 1,600 hours on them and do have some wear.

When you swap to gain clearance you don't change the rotation. You put the left on the right and do not rotate them 180 degrees.

Yes, they can be moved side to side. This reverses the offset of the dish resulting in different tread width. This is routinely done on tractors.

Cannot say from memory but believe that your tractor has rims bolted to the wheel centers. If so, tread width adjustment can also be accomplished by moving the rims from side to side of the dish and/or side to side of the tractor. This too is also routinely done.

Your owners manual will have directions as to how to change tread width.

Need to see what wheels he has. Most R4 wheels don't have different positions like R1 wheels do. Swapping side to side, so valve stems end up on the inside instead of out, might be the only option. Which doesn't change tread direction, like someone else said.

We have a MX series tractor and did exactly that to get the room needed for chains on the R4s it works just like SDT said without any issues.

Agreed.

I did not notice that the OP specified R-4 tires.

MY GL6060 with R-4s does have two piece wheels but I'm not sure that they all do.

On my L with r4s there is no way to swap the wheels side to side, with the off set of the rim is too much to clear the frame.

Some you can, some you can't. Very few are the same it seems.
I can't swap sides on my B8200. But with R1's and two piece wheels on my 870, I have like 6 different positions. There are also some machines that have R4 tires, on two piece wheels, that have a couple positions. Who knows what the OP has until he says, or posts pics.

The owner's manual for the L3560 and bigger 60 tractors shows 3 possible tread widths for l3560 tractors with Industrial tires (R4) and 4 widths for Farm tires. Turfs only have 1.

The diagram is on p82.

Typically Grand L's have two piece rims on the rear R4's, so you can move from side to side and/or the wheel disc can be repositioned on the rim differently.

Can't say doing so will be enough clearance or not. You failed to provide how they are currently positioned on the tractor. Perhaps your dealer set them up at the widest point from the start, the narrowest or something in between. You'll need to resort to trial and error to see if it works for your situation.

Here's a wheel spacer for your L3560:

Hope your successful in gaining enough clearance.

My L3560 has R1's with 2 piece rims so no problem however the L3800 I had with R4's was a one piece rim which could not be switched so I had to buy spacers. That being said it looks like they are not all the same so hard to tell without seeing the rim.
