I saw a Kubota tiller recently that was strange. As you look at it from the PTO side, on the left side you see a steel wheel, looks like a steering wheel, and I can't imagine what that wheel would be doing on the tiller. There were 2 rather large steel wheels on the machine, one on each side, about 12-14" in diameter. Steel and ruggedly made. It was a 3 pt hitch machine.

A decal said it was Kubota, but who knows who could have made such a machine?

I'm thinking the wheel what looks like a steering wheel actually controls the depth of the back wheels. It would be great if you could get a picture of the tiller so we could see what your talking about :D

First of all, the steel wheels are NOT behind the unit. They are on the front side, facing the tractor. As you look at the tiller from the tractor side, you see these steel wheels left and right and you see the (likely) depth adjusting wheel. There is NOTHING on the back except the metal flap that can be raised or lowered. Did Kubota make their own tillers? I'd say this machine is at least 30 years old.
The owner wants a grand for it and it needs all new tines. I'd call that highway robbery. You aren't replacing parts on this unit because they are likely unavailable. It does look kinda kinky, I'll say that much.

It is not a rice paddy tiller. It has the wheel on the left side of the tiller facing the tractor, and 2 steel wheels before the tine shaft housing. It's ungainly looking, to say the least. I know I've seen this machine before, perhaps a few years ago on the Internet. In person, no, never seen such a critter.
