Stingy on fuel

My JD 3020 took about 5 gallons of gas every time I moved snow. The Kubota uses much less. I was thinking less than a gallon of diesel for the same operation but I'm not real sure (it's been awhile) but much, much less fuel.

Ralph, my 3020 claimed 70-ish PTO hp. I'm sure the 4010 was more than that. Do you mean 80.5 instead of 18.5?

Thanks. I was thinking maybe somebody else made a 4010 that was 18.5 hp. JD having both is as silly as my Ford 4000, which was a 961 with a new number (probably to match JDs 4 digit numbers of the era without actually improving the tractor). A few years later they actually redesigned the 4000 an called it a 4000 also.

You guys need to think about something else here. Most of kubotas engines in the smaller tractors are actually de rated from their industrial version. A d1005 is rated at 21 hp at 2600 rpm in a b series, but 26hp at 3600 rpm in an industrial application. Hence the fuel, and govenor setting have been dropped. So your not really working a lot of these engines to full potential. Hence they are inherently more efficient at their lower ratings.

If fuel consumption is affecting you that much, then you shouldn't own a tractor. Get a horse and feed it well so it will do what your tractor is capable of.

The horses’ DPF/ReGen is not the kind of trouble I’d want. (Not to mention I don’t want to have to feed it even on days I don’t work it.)

If I was farming, as a business, making a living, I'd be concerned about the HPG ( Hours Per Gallon) of running my tractors. As it is, they are 'tools', same as hammers, saws, and drills. There's a cost associated to using each of them. I rather doubt most here price out the cost to recharge their battery operated drills, look at which skilsaw uses less power , etc.

I'm really surprised that others do not keep track of how much fuel their tractors use. Most don't seem to care, often buying much bigger tractors or engines than they actually need. This B2601 is using about half the fuel of the 3 JDs I've owned. That is BIG, in my opinion.

I used my machine for 6 hours the other day, dumped a bunch of fuel in at the end of the day, didnt measure it, dont care.

The LX seems to burn roughly the same as my former B2601 did. If you think you are going to get 15 hours of work out of a tank of fuel on a B2601 you are either not loading the engine, or are delusional and inexplicably obsessed with saving fuel at the cost of doing actual work.

I dont fill my machine with an eye dropper, so my data might be slightly askew

I largly agree. Last sumer I had my cousins ABI hoe to do a few projects around my house and help clear brush out of a old tree row at my parents. 25hp kohler gas engine. Tank held about 6 gallons of gas. Filled it up every 5 to 6 hours. Didn't matter it was cheaper then renting something and saved me a ton of back work. Dads L245dt needed fuel every other day. Have the two was indispensable. I dug and he moved the brush.

Doesn't seem to be an argument of tracking fuel, rather a point of getting things done and needing to burn the fuel regardless. If that makes sense...

I worked on making a carry all/ballast box. There were a bunch of concrete blocks (61 lbs each) on the property when we bought it last year so I incorporated 8 of tthem in the carry all. The overall dimension is 48x32. Between the blocks,frame and wood, I should have plenty of ballast along with...

Got to wondering about on fuel consumption. I have a excel file with how $ spent on fuel. Back tracked the receipts to get the gallons purchased.

B2601 165 hrs. has used 101.99 gallons of diesel = .61 gallons per hr. $293.96 total cost , all road taxed.

.61 surprised me I figured burning closer to .8

That's still less than my JD 2025R used because it is exactly the same, and the B2601 is 1 more hp.

My B2601 is still trending to <0.4 gph.

I KNOW the forklift is terrible, have excessive blowby plumbed into intake but the 5K estimate to rebuild AFTER I pull the engine, well.. I can buy a lot of $2.06 diesel with that....

BTW that's 2.06 per litre ,so x4 for us gallon pricing...

I'd think you'd be caring what they use at that price! BIG difference between 0.6 ish gph I was expecting on this B2601 (from its hp) to less than 0.4 gph in reality. Love it.

honestly I don't care( from a pocket book viewpoint), and while it'd be nice to have the Buda 4BD153 rebuilt it's all in the 'details'.... like HOW to get the 4000# counterweight off and stored, does it have 3ring or 4 rings on the pistons. I know it'll outlive me.
Both are 'toys', used to pass the time away, have some fun.
