I have an M4030su that I am unable to get to start. It had been starting with no problems when it starting slowly spinning down and stopped. I attempted to start it a few times with the same results, it would run a little and then slowly shut down. I had had a similar issue with trash in the fuel line before so I blew out the fuel lines up to the injector pump until fuel was running freely. After doing this I tried to start it again and after turning over a few times it started, but immediately ran to full throttle. I quickly grabbed the throttle lever to slow it down but it had no effect. I then grabbed the kill button and tried to pull it out to kill the fuel but it would not move and when I tried to manually turn the engine cut-off lever on the injector pump it was stuck. I had to use a screwdriver with enough force to make the fuel cutoff turn and finally kill the engine. From that point forward it would no start. I loosed a couple of injectors and spun the engine over got no results.

I am concerned the injector pump is bad and that I may need to rebuild or replace it. Can someone recommend a good place to get a pump rebuilt, or that I might order from?

Thanks!

There are many locations across the country which are VERY good at rebuilding the High Pressure Fuel pump. ("Indiana Diesel" comes to mind)

If I were you, I would call around asking about rebuilding yours... or purchase a rebuilt pump.

IMPORTANT: It is IMPERATIVE that the engine-rotation is placed in proper location before removing pump... DO NOT allow engine to rotate while the pump is removed. In this way, when you get the pump back, it will bolt right on without altering the injection-timing.

There are "timing marks" to help find the proper rotation. I believe for most diesel engines, this location is Top Dead Center for cylinder#1 (compression stroke). Some engines have a mark visible thru a port on the injection-pump. (you may have to remove an inspection-cover)

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I need to find a manual for this tractor also. I've been researching manuals for it on the web and there are a lot of places that have them, although the prices seem high. Any suggestions here?

Your friendly Kubota dealer? By the way I believe you actually have a M4030su . I don't know of there ever being a M4020su and if the picture in your avature is your machine

Yes, you are correct. It was a typo. Thanks for providing the information. I will make trip by the orange dealer next week.

They have PDF manuals. The list price in the book is ridiculous but they will often sell them to you for a fraction. ( Some dealers won't sell manuals at all though so you might have to shop around!) I've also heard of dealers that don't even know where to look for manuals in their own system! I wouldn't go back to them!

After researching some more I came across a site called "Wengers" which had diagrams for my M4030su including injector pump breakdowns, part numbers, and prices. Still planning to go by the Kubota dealer and will use your suggestions to see what they can do. Thanks!
