Tractor is an L2202 DT (grey market, approx. 1960-1970 vintage). 3 cyl. diesel. Question is: Can the cover that the shifter levers go through be removed safely such that the seals can be replaced? Is this a relatively easy repair and reassembly?

Make sure the gear case housing vent is not obstructed. As far as the boot/seal they are replaceable, finding the correct part # will be the larger chore.

This is off a l2350dt for close reference

Have you verified the transmission oil level.
Water getting in thru leaking shifter seals can raise the fluid level.
Water sits on the bottom of the transmission producing a high oil level sitting on top of the water.
Your machine does not look like it sits outside but have you used a pressure washer on it.

Make sure the vent, normally located under / around / near the seat, is clear.

As others have said check oil level be sure not over full. Most likely the vent is plugged and nothing wrong with the seals in the shift levers. Vent should be under the seat on the left side. Looks like a question mark.

I am having trouble finding that vent, but I will keep looking. Thank you for the response.

Generally, it is located with a rubber candy cane in one of these two spots under the seat.

Dirt daubers like to clog the tube. Usually I take them off roll them in between your fingers to break up the blockage, and blow a little compressed air in them.

I have a L2350dt and the vent got dry and broke off. I put a clear poly hose on the cap where the orange one was. I also have issues with water leaking into the trans and raising the level. Parking under cover now.
