Is it legal to run a BX on a county road?
I have about 1/4 mile to get to a mowing job.

It all depends on where you are. You would have to check with your state laws.

Here in Alabama it is legal for all roads except for Interstate highways. You must have your triangle properly displayed and I also use my flashers anytime I am on a road. I try and use as little of the road as required and pull over and stop if it gets backed up behind me.

Legal here in Texas also, orange triangle makes you legal although around here in the boondocks most of them have fallen off and not replaced.:)

I mow both shoulders on almost 1/2 mile of county road to where sidewalks start.

Gives the Mrs. and the dog a place to walk off the road.

SMV sign and hazards on.....

You won't have any problems, especially that short of a distance.

Most places you wont have a problem, but the 100% accurate answer to your question is that it depends on the motor vehicle laws in your particular state. You would want to research your state laws, or call your local DMV and find out what the law says about Tractors and other "slow moving vehicles". Typically where it is legal, you need to have the orange triangle sign on the tractor. Its also advised you turn on the blinkers on both sides of the tractor for the duration of the road trip.

Since you have not stated your location or even the road, there is no way anyone can give you 100% accurate information. Each location has their own laws.

Depends on state, county or even country, some places require special plates some places require certain lighting or signage.

With county roads it's usually not an issue, but here Hwy's are fine too, just not the major interstate's.

Actually, you can run on limited access highways, at least here in Michigan if and I say if, the tractor can make the minimum speed limit which is 45 mph.

Only one tractor I know of that can do that... JCB FasTrak.

New Hampshire requires Tractor plates for a whopping $6 to be legal on the road. You also cannot run a tractor on County roads because they don’t exist here. All roads are either Town or State.

BigG - Good article - hadn't seen it before.

Those MM UDLX’s bring $100-150k at auction. They only made 150 in ‘38; seems there’s something like 50-60 known left.

I have a ’53 MM ZAU that’s a narrow front end. At a whopping 12mph top-end, you want to pay attention. Can’t imagine 40mph....[emoji15]

Along with a JD 330 (rare - '59-'60) and JD 435 (2 cycle GM diesel), always wanted to see a UDLX in person. Have seen the JD's, but not the MM UDLX.

Kinda like Santa Claus; haven't seen it, but know it exists....:)

My dad spoke of all the MMs with a smile. We never had one but he did admire them. One of the farms he worked on had a MM. He was pulling 2 wagons of hay down the road and at the top of the hill he decided to kick it into neutral. He could not hit the brakes or the wagons would jackknife. What a ride! Never again he claimed.

I won't detract from Alderman's thread after this. Alderman, my apologies but I like MM's too much and I literally grew up with this one.

Many of the '50's and older have a hand clutch and no power steering, of course.

As a young kid I remember trying to steer, clutch, sometimes apply a wheel brake to help steer, etc....didn't have enough friggin' hands and feet!!:)

But at 6 or 7 I could back it and manure spreader down the 100' barn floor with the cows in (we didn't have barn cleaner). Our other 60' barn was actually a little tighter....

I'll post a picture with my Dad on it. He's 81, and he and my grandfather bought it used in the late-50's, when he himself was a teenager. He's driven it 60 years... I've only driven it 50....;)

It's still at his house until spring...he's really on my case to get it out of there.

I'm a Board member at https://www.classiccarmuseum.org/ . Next year our themed exhibit is tractors. While I hope to get it in there just for my Dad, realistically it is not of the caliber/condition we strive for those exhibits. I'll just bring it home, which isn't a bad thing.

In my state you have to display an smv and anything built after 74 has to have flashing lights. I found this out the hard way so check with your state, it could save you some money.
