I’ve got a 72” rear blade for my B2650. It has a steel cutting edge. IF we get any snow I’ll be cleaning driveways and my church parking lot. Would the steel edge hurt the asphalt or should I look for a rubber edge ………. Thanks

I would invest in a rubber or UHMW cutting edge. Asphalt is easily damaged. Check Good Works Tractors. They ship anywhere.

ummmmm..
have you ever looked at blades on snowplow trucks , or JEEPs that snowplow....??

the one thing you should consider is changing the blades angle so the top edge is slightly forward of the bottom edge.

If the asphalt/concrete is flat and smooth.....Just plow it!
Don't over think it!

I have a 250' asphalt drive that I plow with a steel edge back blade. Agree the trick is to shorten the top link so the blade is leaning forward ( assuming you plow like I do driving Forward) if the snow is more than about 8" I will set the bucket about 4" off the drive to Cut the top layer off. Much easier and faster than plowing backwards.

A steel edge will always mark up asphalt to some degree if the asphalt is in poor condition it will be even worse.

I have used a steel blade on my asphalt for decades with no issues.

I use a King Kutter 6 foot back blade on my blacktop driveway with no damage. I will say that the cutting edge has worn down to about 1/2 wide contact area. Works perfect in my opinion. If I ever use the blade for serious dirt work I would probably reverse the cutting edge and restore to factory new.

Just to add to the conversation, I brought in class 2 for my dirt driveway. Tried using the back blade to smooth it out but it kept digging in. I spun the blade around. Worked fairly well smoothing it out.

Successful "grading" with a rear blade requires much experience.
Though I do not have one, I suspect that a land plane is a MUCH easier tool to use!

Or for much cheaper, just unbolt the steel cutting edge and bolt a piece of plastic board like trex in its place.

That’s the trick for smoothing with a blade, and it also works well for snow removal on a gravel road without disturbing the gravel.

Haven’t tried

Have not tried it in the winter yet. Am hoping the snow pusher I bought works with out removing to much gravel in my driveway. Until it freezes hard, I suspect I’ll be taking some off the top. Was thinking of removing the blade and trim 1/4 inch off the snow pusher blade.

Just turn the blade around backwards and float it on the 3ph. It works great.
