So I recently got an L4060 with several Land Pride implements. One being a brush hog - RCF2072. I got the optional floating top link and have leveled it and etc as instructed.

When I mow with it - it mows horrible !! It is uneven ground with higher and lower spots. When I go into a low spot it bottoms out and scalps the grass and then when I come up out of the low spot into a higher area the mower lifts up and then leaves high spots in the grass...

This can’t be how it’s supposed to mow..?? Pic below of small area mowed - the darker green patches are the high spots it left. I always used tow behinds and never had an issue - but wanted to try a 3-pt for easy maneuverability and not have to worry about tight turns like you have to with a tow behind.

Please help....thank you.

Sadly yes, that's about as good as it gets, without it being fairly level.
A flail or a finish mower does a much better job of making a finer cut.

One thing to note: After it scalps it a few times it will quit doing that! :p

IMO the floating top link should loose when you have it set at operating height so the back of the cutter can float down if needed. The tail wheel should never leave the ground.

After mowing a few times, I have got fairly good at adjusting the 3pt lever to help abate a lot of that. One thing is that you have to go slower on non-flat areas for it to work properly.

As Wolfman stated, it will slowly help to flatten it out to reduce scalping.

I am in disbelief that the answer is basically - yep thats just the way it is - or - that you have to work the 3 point up and down to get a decent mow, hell no.

If thats so, why would anyone ever buy and use a 3 point mower ? Tow behinds dont do this.

Adjust your top link so there is movement whether the rear wheels of the tractor are up or down, then the mower can stay with the ground to a greater degree.

I think that is what Russell was saying, and I agree.

Yes, we do that and it helps if the land isn't to rough but you will find that there are always some areas that are more than that will cover.

Do yourself a favor and go look at a flail mower, they do a much better job at cutting uneven ground. ;)
