The only problem that I have ever heard about aluminum is that metal fatigue will kill them sooner than it will with steel.
That is true.

Based on all the 50+ year old aircraft still flying out there, I'm not worried about it though.

I have "fixed" plenty of steel trailers, they break just as much as aluminum. In my case up here the steel usually rusts out first.

I stole it for 2500.00. It should be worth 4500.00 in my area.
You certainly did. If you come across another like that, pm me. They seem to be running in the 6K range in my area.

Yup with that rust thing, you are way ahead of the game. BTW, I wasn't putting down on the aluminum trailer, just hoping that you would tell me to come a get it. ;)

LOL - No, I have a sweet TIG welder and I'm not afraid to use it! I actually have 3 sons as well that are also always wanting some torch time.

I have a friend that has a calibrated scale that he lets me use, I spent an hour over there yesterday weighing my different setups.

This was my heaviest at 4463Lbs, + 1825 for the trailer = 6288.

Every other configuration was lower in weight and better balanced so this trailer should work out nicely.

My L3301 on my 7 ton skid loader trailer pulled with my F350 powerstroke. Slight over kill.

Not an overkill at all when that is what you have and what you use. Looks good!!!

Now this might be considered as overkill, but it was a cute advertisement.

L2501 and MX4800 each with flail mowers and loaders and loaded rear tires. Trailer is 25+5 feet, empty weight of 5700lbs; GVWR of 16,000lbs. Probably a couple of thousand pounds over the trailer limit but the truck is taking some of the weight. Tow vehicle is a 2018 RAM 3500 Cummins with 6 speed manual trans.

Now that’s a load.
Is a CDL required for where you are?

CDL is a federal requirement for combinations over 26,000lbs GVW regardless of what the state does, so in this case, yes. The truck pictured is 14,000GVW and the trailer is 16,000GVW = 30,000 GCWR, which requires a Class A CDL.

Believe it or not, if you towed this same load with a diesel 3/4 ton, no CDL is required. The 3/4 ton trucks are all rated at 10,000GVW and so combined they fall just shy of the requirement. However, a 3/4 ton doesn't really have enough payload capacity to handle this trailer with the tongue load pictured, especially if its a diesel 3/4 ton (which is pretty much needed for pulling this much weight). Maybe Ford's new 7.3L big block gas V8 would be adequate, I don't know.

Could you load the MX backwards? If so you could, lift the FEL up in the air, flip your ramps down flat and lower the bucket on top of them. Might save a little drag on the load. Not much but with all that on the trailer every little bit would help.

I tried that, but the length of the flail mowers are deceiving. You cannot lift one high enough to get far enough forward to get the ramps to lay flat whether facing forward or rearward. I'm not too worried about fuel economy though - its all factored into the cost of doing a job. I'd get somewhere around 10-11mpg with this load.

I've since moved on to a 2019 RAM 3500 without the duals, but with the new 1000lb-ft Cummins diesel. There is a little stability lost but the power is quite exceptional.
