No oil to oil filter!?

The relief valve is in the engine not the oil filter.
It's under a round cover on the side of the engine.

Just to summarize the 'valves' we have discussed in this thread:
1) "pressure Releif valve" which is inside engine and is intended to protect from overpressuring the oil-system. This valve opens to releive excess pressure back into the pan.
2) "Bypass Valve" is inside some oil-filters and is intended to protect the filter media from blowing open when oil is cold/thick. When this valve opens, the oil bypasses the filter-media.
3) 'anti back flow valve' or 'anti drainback valve' is inside some oil filters. It is a ONE-way (check) valve which is intended to keep the prime in the system by slowing down oil draining out of the filter when engine is not running.

If the filter had been cut open the paper pleats would have been seen to be wet with oil and this foolish snipe-hunt wouldn’t have been.

I’m amazed at the number of people that will spend hundred$ of dollar$ on oil spectronanalysis but don’t do the simpler and more useful thing of cutting open the filters and seeing what’s in them.

Well....That response will certainly encourage people to ask questions. Sometimes it's not the destination that adds value but rather the journey getting there. Sort of like the space program
