I swapped the rear blade in the package deal out for a box blade. I have to maintain my driveway too. Lots of gravel runs off of it into the side ditch. Hopefully I can pull it out with the box blade and won't have to buy a rear blade. Thanks for the conversation about the subject. It's something I am interested in learning about.
You might find out the box blade works well for you. I prefer the rear angle blade for road maintenance.

I googled "using a box Blade" literally and watched videos. It seems kind of can use both for the drive. Today I lengthened the top link on used the outside blade that is contoured like reversing a back blade to smooth out the mess I made yesterday. Worked pretty well actually. To get gravel out of a dip or ditch you may be making the drive crown that low and actually adding material if you use the box blade. At least my Newbie ass did that without trying hard. Then I made a little ditch next to it so water will run off better. Ice was bad this winter from pooling up everywhere. The idea of the box is it gathers up your gravel and fills pot holes as you go instead of a big pile with a normal blade. Now learning to do that well....Im still trying myself lol...

I’ve watched a ton of videos on the box blade previously for driveway stuff which is why I chose the box blade. After watching many videos on the rear blade I can see that implement will be very helpful in several situations where the box blade wouldn’t be as effective or effective at all.

But I dont know anything as I have yet to use any of these things. I’ll know better when I get some experience with it all. And hopefully don’t break anything in the process of learning by doing. I probably will, though.

Just my opinion, but when considering implements you have to decide something dedicated to a task or versatile. I don’t think in general you get both any single implement. Blade is very versatile. The scraper very specific in my opinion. Versatile is jack of all master of none. I think tractor is basically same although if need a PTO it’s bass ass. It other wise is is not master of the tasks.

People should use whatever implement works well to do the job on their land. I owed both a box blade and a straight blade for over 20 years. After discovering that the 6 way straight blade worked best for snow removal and gravel road maintenance, my box blade just sat in the weeds. I used it a few times to level the ground for sheds and carports. The box blade is awesome for that task, and it’s also is great for filling large ruts and holes in roads. I no longer have need to do those things, so when I sold my small tractor and implements, I only bought a straight blade for my new larger tractor, based on my current needs. Your needs may be different than mine.

I agree. It all depends on the project. In my case the driveway is so compacted the angle blade i have just skips. I need the scarcifers to loosen the bedrock as it seems.
I also was merely pointing out the reverse curve of the angle blade is pretty much the same as the rear blade on the box blade. So i can use 1 implement. Can always quick hitch it and finish with the straight blade to finalize. If you are grading fresh gravel or loose dirt the stright blade works fine. I still think the box could do as well though. So for me its more versatile if i had to only have 1.

I agree it makes sense if you’re paying cash. I am not using the equine discount since I am financing.
I took delivery of my LX2610SU this past December and received $2,700 off with the equine discount.
I paid cash.

I got 1800 off for cash on my L4060 in February of this year. Kubota did the 1400 as standard,(I had to bring it up though) dealer took 400 off.

I had similar concerns. A guy on ytmag assured me: “ Break something? It’s just dirt”. I’m still not good at blading, but I am a little less hesitant.

The only issue with the back blade is on a new tractor remember the back blade hangs out on both sides I just put up a cedar gazebo last summer and managed to take a large chunk out of one of the upright beams yesterday cause I lack the situational awareness to remember that extra foot of blade hanging out. I also manage to limb a spruce tree with the Rops. because for the first time my head is not the highest part of the tractor

that’s where I think a ballast box is real handy…gives a little more room to manuever and inside the track of the tires.
