All three Kabota tractors, I have call for 10W-40 diesel oil. Can’t find that in a synthetic diesel. Choices are 5W 40 or 15 W 40. I’m thinking of going with the 5W 40 I am in the Northeast. Any comments? Thanks.

If you want something for year-round go with 5W-40

Synthetics will be lower first number like that. I use 0W40 and 5W40 synthetic in all my tractors and diesel trucks big and small.

Only thing you need to make certain of when you buy is that it is NOT an FA classification. That is for the newest on road emissions engines.

Look for these C classifications:
API CK-4 oils exceed the performance criteria of API CJ-4, CI-4 with CI-4 PLUS, CI-4, and CH-4 and can effectively lubricate engines calling for those API Service Categories.

They are backwards compatible from the newest CK.
Don't worry about what Kubota manuals say. They are incorrect. Even when you buy Kubota branded oil, it is a class the manuals say not to use, LOL

Yep. Used 15w-40 for a short while. Cold starts were a little tough without block heater.

5w-40 is much easier in winter, and works fine year 'round.

will this do ???
High-Mileage-Full-Synthetic-Motor-Oil-10W-40

Wallmart USA has it !
That is likely NOT a diesel rated oil. Likely the Walmart Syntec brand. Good oil but NOT for diesels. GEt Shell Rotella T-6 or Mobil Delvac 1 or even hit the Farm and Fleet stores they sell a good 5W-40 diesel rated oil

Use both. (15w + 5w)/2= 10w
There should be a ambient temperature chart in the manual to specify the oil for your temperature range.

This is a powder keg ..... but I agree with the 5w-40 synthetic (I like Amsoil and Rotella) in YOUR climate ..... cold.

Easy starts and additives to help when the oil gets to temps.

O - am MAKE sure you get DIESEL oil .......... too many LOOK at the oil and not the label .... DIESEL

I use 15W-40 but only use my tractors in Summer.
I would use 5W-40 if also using in colder weather, though it seems like it would not make any meaningful difference.

The 5w40 still fits what you say.

I use M1 0w30 European diesel rated ESP oil from Advanced Auto in both the B2601 and Isuzu generator driver. Before that, I was using VW's 5w30 Castrol for their diesels and is what I used in the VW TDI for 7 years.
