It appears as if no one has anything in stock for L35. Tractor Data has listed as 17gpm and everything looks to be 13gpm. I have a forestry plan in motion on twenty acres and really need a grapple on the machine.

You don't need all 17GPM for the third function as some is for the PS.
The loader is 11.1 GPM.

"Foster" ????
R.I. ???
Have you tried both MB tractor (MA & NH) and Messick's (PA)?
Coleman's too (MO).

I have been on phone and computer most of the day looking. Messick's has been my go to but they said three weeks, "maybe". Afraid to go with a 13GPM because I think I will lose too much power.

You only have 11.1gpm for the loader to use.
So putting a 13gpm third function valve in is not going to reduce any flow to the loader at all.
The other 6.12GPM is on a different loop, that loop runs the Steering, Three Point and the GST.

And fyi GPM is not power, its speed, PSI is power.

Diverter for grapple
Do you know the operational difference between a diverter and a third function?

For those that don't know the difference:

A diverter uses the lines that operate the tilt cylinders, and diverts them to the grapple cylinders to open and close.

A third function valve adds another circuit to the loader that operates the grapple.

The real advantage of a third function is you can tilt and grapple at the same time, and not just one or the other.

If you are using a diverter, than none of the GPM conversation matters as your not using 11.1 gpm on tilting the loader bucket, your using like 2 to 3 gpm if that!

Thank you for the info. I am aware of the difference but for the cost of a third function I did not see that much of an advantage and yes, I have ran all types of equipment during my career in the construction industry. I'm just not real familiar with the mechanics of hydraulics.

My diverter operates through the third function, and is used. for SSQA locking.

It's really worth the extra $ when it comes to ease / functionality of grapple operation having a third function valve over a diverter valve.

That an excellent use of a diverter valve because it's not a constant under operation use, more of a lock it and forget it operation.

The machine came to me (used) with that feature.
It works especially great for this old guy too, because it eliminates the need to dismount, for locking/unlocking.

I would not expect much difference in cost. You still need the joy stick handle with switch and that is crazy expensive at almost $200.

Using a diverter kit from Summit and making hoses locally I am at a hair over $520, kits from WR Long or Summit for PB run around $900

You have obviously made your choice and the diverter will work fine. You actually lose very little functionality using a diverter given the operation of Kubota loader valves.

But you can roll your own "true" 3rd function for much less than $900.
  1. A generic D03 solenoid valve with manifold is $200.
  2. A joystick handle with harness is $185 from Summit.
At that point you are at $390 and 90% of the way there. The remainder is the same hoses, fittings, couplers, and brackets you need for a diverter.

Or, if you have fab capability and value your time at $0/hr, you could do something like this
